This show may not be the best of the Fall '84 tour, most likely that would be the Augusta shows. But, this show is very underrated, and for different reasons it is on a par with the next night in Worcester. It may come down to personal taste, and I prefer shows that are filled with Jams and things "out of the ordinary."
How can you beat a decent 12 minute "Bird Song"? And a "Lazy Lightnin > Supplication"? Starting the 2nd set with a "Terrapin" is out of the ordinary and it was pretty decent with an okay Jam at the end. The "Samson > Make Love" does seem a bit tense at the beginning, but Jerry was rippin' it during the nice Jam at the end - I think some times Jerry got on Brent's case for deciding what songs the band should play and Jerry might not have liked that particular selection at that specific point i time. The "Miracle" before drums is not usual, and then there was a cool Jam after going into drums.
For me I always love the space segment but hate when the song out of space is obvious, like the next night when Jerry is playing Other One for at least a minute before the drummers are on stage. On this night I did not hear "Truckin'" until they were actually in it, and it was about as good a version as one could get in the mid 80s.
As a side note, I got to see the Renoir exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston with Phil, Brent and Bobby before these shows and Worcester '84 will always have special meaning for me.
Peace out y'all. Long Live the Good Old Grateful Dead !!)

thats some old school Beverley hills cop shit.
Anyway the I agree on second night better 1st. Aiko is a killer opener and this seemed to be a little uninspired and the show never really blazes from here. None the less its still a pretty cool show nestled between some great ones.
My favorite from this Oct 84 run are the Augusta shows and the BCT run end of month and beg of Nov were blow outs. Out there but tight as a drum.

Hey Greg, You forgot about the I Just Want from 2-21-95. That is actually the last one. And actually, there was one before the 1984 versions in 1966....

Show quality sketchy - sound of tape is great. Greg Holtz (me) and Tony Bolton ran the decks this night, we had Mike Rice's D-5 and a couple of D-6's running Nakamichi CM-100's with CP-4 Shotgun caps, just to the right of the soundboard as we faced the stage. This night paled in comparison to the next night's second set (1st half at least), but it was still a lot of fun. Of note is the goofy sounding (2nd and last performance of) I just want to make love to you on this night. They broke it out in Ventura earlier this year, and the Ventura one was killer... this one struggles.... Memorable in the parking lot was the cops occupying a building across the way from the Centrum.....binoculars and clipboards. We took up a collection and sent 'em Pizzas!
Peace
