This is a great show for the period and the recording is just exquisite. Put it on and just be there.
The Mississippi Half-Step is killer -- I think this is when they broke it back out. It just crackles with energy. Remember being bummed I didn't see it -- was at the Hampton Shows a few days earlier.
The Shakedown is excellent, plus followed by solid versions of UJB and Playin'. I'm pretty sure the crowd was happy--hell, I'm happy right now just listening to it.
I was lucky enough back in 85 to get good copies of many of the spring and summer shows, including a tape of this particular recording.
For my money, 3/9/85 Berkeley Community Theater, Nassau --this show -- 3/27/85, Greek 6/16/85, Merriweather 6/30/85, Astroworld 8/30/85, and 10/29/85 Fox Theater, Atlanta, were the best shows from 1985.
3/9/85 and 8/30/85 weren't as strong shows overall, but each had exemplary versions of several songs. This show and the other four from 1985 I mention compare favorably with pretty much any post-1980 material--they might not win, but they are in the hunt. I'd be happier with all of them if Brent hadn't been mixed so loud.

I agree with the comments below, greta shgow, pretty nice aud. the board fo this show was neve ron eof the best of 1985.
As fot eh Shakedowns liste dbelow I must add 4/7/85 to that list - second night Spectrum. I saw that one, as well as 6/30/85, still spinning from both. 4/7 blows away the Red Rocks '84 version you mention imho. Syracuse 10/20/84 is another Shakedown worth getting, I was at that one.
I missed this show, wish I had seen it. I saw Hampton, Portlkand, and Philly on this tour. So I got to see the second Tom Thumb;s on April Fool's oin Portland in the snow (those shows were a phenomenal time). Greta example sof why ypou had to be there. Tapes are nice to listen fopr sure, thanks to all who work on this archive site, it ois a great thing to be able to coem here and listen to stremeing shows. But people who review the Dead based on the tapes are kind of missing ti in my view. Liek talking about rough vocals and mistakes, sometimes those were the best shows. This is the Dead folks, not Bon Jovi. I love this hsow but I can;t quite go 5 stars.

There was a big banner sign that some heads were bringing around to all these Spring '85 shows saying "Let Phil Sing!!!" I remember bein' on the floor lookin' up at this sign for the ?'th time. Before the set I turned to my buddys and said "Man, what is the point of all the trouble, the guy does not sing." I was about 20 feet in front of him when he stepped up and stole my face. Not that it was the most on key soulful execution but it was remarkable. My foot never tasted so good. We were all dumbfounded bein so unexpected. These Oade's are very nice. I agree with everyones take on the eve as a whole musically, Set ll shines.

Pre drums especially is awesome. Features one of the many mid 80's benchmark quality Shakedowns (also see 06/14/84, 12/31/84, 06/30/85, 09/07/85 etc...). As others have noted, this is a great audience recording. I also have the board, but listen to this source more often.
I find the 1st set more average, and that Touch is truly horrible, so 4 stars overall.

great show, great recording. it was amazing how spacious it was on the floor for this show. jerry totally screws up touch, but the rest of the show has some great moments. apparently the bust a couple of months earlier didn't help him much. this is your brain (and voice) on drugs. excellent run!

If I have one beef with some of the Oade recordings, its that the vocals are sometimes pretty distant especially in the first set. I notice this more with Spring '85 recordings vs. Fall '85 recordings. Nice Shakedown and love that Touch! Could Jerry not hear that he was way off? Trouble ahead, Jerry in red. . .

this is a good show. I have never heard the first set. However, the second is funky, well great! Garcia really gets into it after the second chorus, there's no doubt you wil too. The following ULB and Playin is great and tightly played. The stella will create goose bumps and the lovelight is a great closer. It's funny how this band plays and I kinda forgot (after listening to this and my last show in 92') how the band interacts with the crowd. I wish they were all like this.
four stars. - four stars for the short set.Otherwise download.
