OMG-I hadnt heard this show in years. I had this on an old cassette that wasnt labeled telling me what show it was. I just knew it was GD. I remember I would play the shit out of it because it had that really sick long jamming Scarlet-Fire on it. WOW, I'm so glad this site is around to be able to find and explore all of these superb GEMS!!

Heinous cut
This has always been one of my very favorite shows. 06/30 as well. To me the pair of shows are and always have been two of the finest examples of the synchronicity of Grateful Dead music. There exist in the pair of shows examples of the highest order of collective unconscious. In other words they were tapped in to the Spirit of the Universe on these nights. The Scarlet/Fire is my all time favorite. Jerry's playing is so perfectly phrased. He is speaking coherently and saying profound things in a way I can understand. It's as if every note was shaped and intended to ....well you may or may not know what I mean but I hope you do because knowing this type of interaction and magic between muscians can and does exist in the world has given me much satisfaction and inspiration over the years.
That being said there is a heinous cut right before the wonderful peak in Dear Mr. Fantasy. OUCH! Three stars are for the wonderful music and good sound. Minus two stars for the pain caused me when the peak I was waiting for disappeared. I would find another version of this show for sure lest you go through life not ever having realized what you missed in Fantasy on 07/01/85.

finally a show that doesnt get picked on!!
I am so sick of these people busting on shows of this quality. I absolutely feel these people were the ones crying to get in and didnt get a ticket. and there still crying>.... I tell you if you were lucky enough to be there and stood in line for your communion you will understand this one was filled with vibe after vibe. I still feel it listening 20 years later. little static
but otherwise coherent playing and the band was nice and high and walking over the bridge afterwards was fun/ Thanks to the hari krishnas for feeding me. what a blast nice upper lawn area
the band just sounds like they were having fun. seems to me that they progressed all the way up to this night for a week or so.

Scarlet
in remembrance of some of the finest and cleanest playing from a readily available and quality 1985 recording, I played this 2nd set tape, notably the Scarlet Begonias, on August 9, 1995 over and over in my red 1991 honda civic hatchback over and over then met at the bar with friends to celebrate the fine memories

back in the day...
This show was near the end of my third consecutive tour, and I guess I was getting a little tired. I remember enjoying the show, but it didn't blow my mind the way the Greeks, River Bend and Hershey Park did. However, I listened to the first set on the way home from work last night and was impressed by how crisp, tight and dominant Jerry's playing is. Definitely worth downloading, especially if you're into '85.

Incredible Scarlet!
Listen to Scarlet Begonias! This is one of the best ever! There are reviews of the night before but do not make the mistake of missing this. Jerry's playing on Scarlet is so articulate, punctual and precise. I have been so hooked on this, the Scarlet stands out and is the highlight yet I think the rest of the show is competent enough.
