Gotta Agree...
.....with “Separation of Dead and State” poster below, 16 years ago! OMSN IS the highlight of the show. After that air is escaping from the balloon, the boys increasingly worn/partied out. This also seems to be a super short show, perhaps reflecting that low energy. Of course there are some moments here and there, but overall a dud.

Thanks everyone!!
So wonderful to read everyone's reviews and to get an historic framing of world events during this show. It actually adds such a huge perspective.

No encore for Saturdays show?
Yeah, Jerry broke 2 strings during Sugar Mags/ Sunshine Daydream and Phil’s mind was totally blown, in his own words. The last real loose outdoor Cal shows before they went big in ’87 with the release of Touch of Grey. Cal Expo rocked!

My Second Show
This was my second show and man, was it awesome. We were down on the lawn, about 10' in front of Jerry, the closest I have ever been to the stage. It was raining at the start of the show and I remember Jerry looking up at the sky, shaking his head with a big grim while singing "pray for better weather". Highlights for me include the Playin>Drumz>Space> UJB> Playin and the Box of Rain encore. I'm so stoked to have this SBD.

There were ON!
I was at this show. This was just days after the Chernobyl accident (hence the Bobby's very weird rap during Good Lovin.) Reagan was pushing Star Wars and turning a deaf ear to Gorbchev. We all thought WWW III was around the corner. Quite a heavy time to be doing time in the universal mind.
The day was overcast and just a bit cold. Before the start of the concert the audience started screaming and clapping as they saw Micky and Billy tossing thier drumsticks high in the air back and fourth over the drum kit. Some one told me there was a gathering of sufis back stage. Who knows. Garcia was first to hit the stage and grinned and waved and you just had that feeling they wanted to DO IT that afternoon. This was a VERY FUN SHOW!!! A high-point for 1986 west coast shows.

I wasn't there, but, oh, how I wish I would've been....
...but not for the 'Saturday Night'... Try instead... SPACE. There's something about it... images of shimmering water, an isle with a lone column of an ancient ruin bathed in moonlight... Embodies what the Grateful Dead is for me... Other than that, nothing special ;)

Sat. Nite Opener?
My friend & I just spoke about this show tonight. He was there and said, that on the previous night (Sat,May 3) the show had no Encore due to technical (sound) problems. So this day, the next day (Sunday), they opened the show with what would have been last nights Encore (1 more Sat. Nite).
We were talking about shows where they played this song when it wasn't actually Sat. nite. I will download the show to check it out. later...
