Mediocare Show from a Mediocare Year
For now, this is a Set II only review, but one can tell from listening to this show that the steam in old Jer's engine was clearly nearing empty. While there are, as he would say in a different context, moments of blinding brilliance (see the outro Playin' jam and the fragile Comes A Time), there are equal parts limp, uninspired playing (see UJB, a nothing Space, and a Peter that will make you cringe).
Weir makes a curious attempt at levity by introducing the band (although he only refers to mickey/bill as the "drummers" and brent as "that guy on keyboards") his "Phil how do you do" and "old Garcia" bring a chuckle, the vocal harmonies step on him (who the hell knew where he was going?) so aside from this version being a funny historical anomoly, it can't save what is essentially a hit or miss performance.
Three stars for now ...

Overall decent show. Vocals are echoey at times, especially during Me and My Uncle. Midnight Hour does sound a bit muddy. Playing is short and sweet with a nice jam and neat segue into Comes a Time. I personally like Brent's keys in Comes a Time, they have the Mid-Eighties flare of Brent that I like. Phil sounds great during West L.A. Fadeaway, he really stands out. The Drums>Space also deserves a listen

clean recording, strong performance
I saw this show and was pleasantly surprised by the performance. The only time I ever saw Bobby introduce the band (during Good Lovin). They were obviously in high spirits this day.
Some sound issues during Midnight Hour, otherwise it sounds great!!
