Watchtower!
At this show. Watchtower breakout was unbelievable, total pandemonium let loose in place and they hit it on all cylinders. I still get chills when I listen to it.

The show before the show
Earlier that day in Golden Gate Some friends & I were roller skating & skateboarding around & ran into a croud of about 50 to 100 deadheads. They were looking for a free show starring Jerry & Grace Slick. It was being broadcast on a San Fran FM station live. After roaming around for about 15 minutes we came around a curve & sure enough there they were! I had never seen the Dead before & was absolutely amazed at the sound of this mans guitar playing. We had dropped a goonybird apiece & my girlfriend turns to me & says "I think I'm having a bad trip"! The sounds were scaring her so I decided to take her back to the car. On the way to the car she realized she had lost her keys. Then we realized we had lost the car. We spent the next 10 hours looking for it! This is a big park people! The first hr or two we could her Garcia & Grace very well (they had flatbed trucks w/speakers on the back blasting the show). My girlfriend completely lost it! She couldn't skate so well & had fallen a few times & was pretty dirty from the falls. I was a pretty acomplished rollerskater & some good looking blond kept skating past us flirting & shaking her butt in front of us & my girlfriend sees this & just starts bawling her eyes out!LOL She keeps asking me to take her to a church(even though she wasn't religious at all)! This was some serious paper we had taken & our first road trip ever! So about 10 hrs later we still can't find the car so we call the cops to report it stolen(oh boy). 2 hrs later they show up & there's 3 of them in the car. I didn't have any shoes or a shirt on & it was getting cold. We drove around for about an hr looking for the car w/no luck. At one point we stop for gas & they ask us if we want some chinese food. We take them up on it(still trippin balls) & one cop offers to take us back to the station & give me some shoes & a shirt out of his locker(those days are long gone). Now it's dark out & the girlfriend starts crying again. Finally we are told that this is is the last street to check near the park & bam! There 's the car (a little white toyota corola with a 70cc 3 wheeler on the roof)Did I mention we had brought the 3 wheeler? LOL Well, the cops are more relieved than us I can tell & want to see us off. We forgot to mention we had lost the keys! So anyway, one of the windows is broken (two of our friends found the car before we did & couldn't wait). So the cops try to hotwire the car unsuccessfully. eventually they gave up & gave us permission to set up a tent for the night. One of the cops even gave me his flash light(it said SFPD on it). As soon as the cops left our 2 friends popped out of the bushes nearby. We laughed soooo hard!!! Then one of the frinds busts out with some kind nugs & real opium we so took some tokes & went for a little cruise on the skateboards. Out of no where a little white rabbit jumps out of the bushes. It followed us back to camp where we realized it was a kitten with really long hind legs(we named him tripper). So the next morning we were able to hotwire the car & head back to orange county. On the way back we helped another deadhead that was brokedown with a dog named Doser! I ended up running into him 15 yrs latter in Penn at a rainbow gathering. & we had a pretty good laugh. I'll never forget that crazy day in the park! If anyone has a copy of the sound I'd love to here it! indianrockman at y a h o o

A good day at the Greek (not so much for me)
Well I just listened to this and it is a pretty good show. Sadly I was being beaten and arrested by UC Berkely police during a good bit of the second set. I was finally dragged out in handcuffs together with my then girlfreind just as Phil boomed into The Other One. I was released within the hour as the cops relized they had no actual evidence. I had some great times at The Greek for sure, this was not one of them. This is a longshot, but someone got the whole arrest on video, it would sure be amusing (or terrifying) to check it out now. This was not the only show I left in handcuffs, I was a really stupid kid back then!

sPOON dIVIES
Performance rates a 5-star, but the recording is missing much essential Healy weirdness. What about all the weird voices and samples that I've got on my FM copy of this show, particularly before the Sat Nite encore [which btw is misplaced in the set list]?
This is why I save my XLIIs, folks.

I enjoyed the static...
I agree this was a great show - I don't know why some have to be so critical; the static is what makes this show so unique! I think "Deal" always works well as the drums/space vehicle and this has always been one of my favorite LLR's.

Doing the Freak at the Greek
I was at this show and I remember it well - the Greek is an awesome beautiful venue to see any show but especially the Dead. The show cooked throughout. My personal highlight was Watchtower. It was rumored they were rehearsing with Bobby D and they were steadily adding Dylan tunes. When they launched into it the place went beserk - totally f'ng nuts. It is a particularly edgy rocking song for the Dead and the crowd just loved it. Worth the download for sure.
UPDATE:
WHOA Deadbugman - you need to adjust your prescription. In every review you write you complain about static. Do you ever have something nice to say? I am listening to this show right now and it sounds fine - there's also a matrix version on archive if you don't like this one.
Phil fiends will especially love the Franklin's. If you like Phil, check out this version, at points he's higher in the mix than Jerry. Short first set (45-50 mins.).

Quality
The static is unbearable with all the great sounding shows on the archive why would anyone want this piece of crap. Worth the download? What were you thinking when you wrote that in your review? Did you even listen to this show or are you just in love with the fact that you were there?
