Something special in the air on this night. After an exceptionally long intermission, they came out and created an other worldly experience. I sat behind the sound board and Healy was sending all types of sounds through the rear speakers. Truly a unique night that will never happen this way again. Ripple was flat out magical.

Get this one just for the ridiculously rare electric Ripple. Nice Birdsong and Dew. Other less frequent songs on the playlist include Foolish Heart Victim or Crime, and Box o' Rain.
I sampled the 8 audience versions on Archive (as of Oct 2018) -- this one has the best sound quality of the bunch. No surprise, as the great Charlie Miller was involved in production.

This one is a clunker.
Yes Ripple is special.
The Stranger is also interesting in spots.
Franklin's get's messed up with half the band playing the down beat in the wrong spot. After me and my unlce it sounds like mexicali but Bob changes it to Big River cause he forgot the opening verse.
Healey messes with Jerry's vocals on Bird song, adding a phasing sound. He does this to Weir at the end of big river as well. Pretty disrespectful of Healey to mess with the vocals like that.
The Bird song jam is a mess. It is like they aren't listening to each other at all.
Box is cringeworthy in the vocal department.
You can't win em' all.

Now matter what you critics say, I thought this show was magical. It was my first show and it was amazing. For the longest time, I thought they played ripple just for me (one can dream), but then I read about the make a wish request. It was a nice feeling for a long time. I relish the memories of that evening

The request for ripple actually came from my uncle who was at that show through the make a wish foundation. But to clear up some misconceptions about why he was there, he wasn't suffering from the disease in "The Mask" nor did he have cancer. He actually was in an accident at work and was able to get into the foundation. But I am happy to say that he is not dead, and is still alive, in fact I saw him last week at a family reunion in Virginia.

I'm a little shocked at the harsh "too cool for school" comments for this show. I always have very fond memories of this show as one of the best of this tour. Remember, Foolish Heart and Victim were still new and finding themselves as songs. This was the first time that I remember Foolish Heart being jammed out of, and this represented a turning point for Victim as a song. I also think the Dew was quite good and the OMSN actually had energy, rather than *wanting* to have energy as so many encore OMSN's tend to be. This Ripple was an amazing experience for anyone who was there. It was for a guy (late teens, early 20s? not a boy) who had the disease that affected the guy in the movie "Mask." At the end of the movie after the lead character dies, they play Ripple. The guy who went through the make-a-wish foundation actually toured quite a bit at this time period and i remember seeing him at many shows. I even thanked him once for giving us all this "ripple." Don't know what ever came of him, but given that disease, I'm guessing he's no longer with us. Think of him and give some thanks that we get to listen to this now.

This is my first download from this site. I was at this great show and can not wait to hear it again.
The boys took us high and low throughout the show. After traveling and going to shows over the years, it was fantastic to hear them finish with Ripple.
It is pretty standard stuff but, at the time, that's what we all wanted to hear!

Geezz US. That is the weirdest tune I have ever heard from the boys. I like the opening riff, but when the vocals get all pitchy, I had to listen to it twice and I LIKE IT.

My understanding is that the Ripple was for a fan dying of cancer and he had requested it.

Subject: Ripple request?
Subject: Ripple request?
When I got a tape of the second set a year after this show, my buddy said "Ripple" was a request from a sick fan. Any comments? Otherwise, this is quite a good show. The "Box" is a great set opener, I started to groove on "Foolish Heart" after hearing this version, and "Eyes" is loose and flows well into Drums. I'm here to complete the show with the first set, and the "Shakedown>Franklin's>LRR>Peggy-O" is very enjoyable. I like mellow shows sometimes, and this one finds its way frequently into my deck when I'm feeling laid back. The sound reminds me of the Cap Center, also, with a full sound and good reverb. It's not great, but earns 3 1/2 stars in my book.

This show is a shame. It coulda been a really good show. It wanted to. It just didn't get there.
Weird mix. Check out the somewhat unique rendition of Victim for kix.

I am sure Ripple was a nice treat for those that were there. Nothing else about this show really stood out for me. Not great, not bad. Sound quality is only so-so at best.
