Subject: Atlanta crowd always pumped up...
As I have mentioned in other reviews, the "Atlanta" crowd (which included the quite large Athens crowd) so looked forward to the GD's annual spring shows. That they always were over my B-day weekend was so special to me. In a radio interview on WREK-FM, Georgia Tech's outstanding, progressive, student radio station Jerry said that he just loved the beautiful gardens, dogwoods, and azaleas in Atlanta and the band liked to visit Atlanta to enjoy the many spring attractions and would try to schedule at least one, if not two, days off in Atlanta to relax and "recharge". The combination between a loving, excited crowd and a rested band made for some amazing concerts. Additionally, the Dead's excellent sound engineering staff had the Omni mapped out to perfection. The sound would be consistently perfect.
This Gardner tape is up to the standard Tony is known for, and as I listen to it am amazed. It is, IMHO, better than the SBD recording.
This one is a 5-star without reservation or explanation. Thanks so much Tony.
Only attending 80 shows or so over the years, I am no expert, but this show is in my top five. The ending, where the Band comes out and does "We Bid You Goodnight" a'cappella (sp?) after the audience going on for almost 5 minutes is a night I will NEVER forget, and one of my best show memories ever!
PS: Incidentally, Brent Mydland died on July 26th, 1990. This was his last tour and he was very much alive in this show, as the recordings amply indicate...

I have major hearing problems. It’s called tinnitus and for those of you who don’t know it is a constant ringing in your ears. Therefore, it is hard for me to find audience shows that are of good enough quality for me to listen to without doing further damage to my hearing (by having to turn up the volume past 5 to even tell what song is being played!). I am not saying anything about these shows except that as a person with major hearing lose, these are some of the shows that I have on my I-Pod. Of course some are better than others. However, I am not giving any of these shows a review. I can always find something good in every show…...as long as I can hear it!!!! Here is my list for today, 9/20/08:
7.6.84, 10.15.84, 6.19.91,
7.18.89, 6.21.84, 9.6.85,
10.12.84, 10.12.83, 11.1.85,
8.24.85, 7.31.82, 6.25.92,
8.5.89, 10.31.83, 6.26.92,
10.8.84, 12.5.81, 8.30.85,
11.5.85, 6.26.84, 8.3.82,
6.8.80, 10.14.84, 8.10.82,
3.14.81, 12.26.80, 4.15.83,
4.18.82, 10.31.91, 9.2.85,
10.14.83, 4.2.90, 4.30.90,
Please let me know if you have any show suggestions that compare to these in quality of sound. Send suggestions to frostyspicks@live.com.

Compare this copy to the FOB (3732) before you download. This one sounds like it's running at a slower speed, whereas the FOB sounds correct (to my ears, anyway). No gripes about the sound at all; both of these sound excellent.

Hey ShurgyMagnolia,
I am curious to know how you know what Bob Weir was thinking this night? Or how you know how hard Brent's death was on Jerry? I just wonder where people getting off purporting to know what the hell other people they have never met were thinking 15+ years ago? Ugh.

THIS MUST BE ONE OF THE CRAZIEST SPACES....ahh at my first dead concert, what a treat. I like to hear a good space. Overall .... Never saw an crowd so pumped up in my life. On the freeway in from Stone Mountain people were hanging out the windows thowin peace signs and blowing bubbles the whole way. At the OMNI the vibe seemed to sizzle. I can't really review the show itself except it was real good. I'm still in awe. I had never heard I Will Take You Home, I got all teary-eyed. Other that that, all i can share is fun memories... I remember a girl somehow managed to get across this giant pile of chairs and make it out on the floor. The cops surrounded her, about six or seven of them with flashlight. The girl made some weird tai-chi type hand gestures and then vanished in thin air. These poor cops were really spooked! My freind and I laughed..."Grateful Magic". Thanks everyone for the stories!

I reviewed the other copy that was on the archive, and I'll say what I said on that one. THIS IS ONE OF THE CRAZIEST SPACES EVER!! That being said, it is incredible that they can go from some crazy-ass shit straight into I Will Take You Home.

The Fella's sure loved Hotlanta too. Always High Energy. This night represents a Classic Weir-Garcia Struggle. Bobby sure as heck wasn't expecting Scarlet to followi eyes! Yeah', it was on the "discussion Table" which chracterises Jerry's BullIshness virtues which thank god were still ever present at this point . No Just Like a Swiss Watch" Here. Unfortunately after Brent's passing, Jerry' soul Had endured more than enuogh. No doubt, Every show that followed was a blessing. Sure, it was more than enough to see them all together, interacting as a family unit. for the Much Better or for worse. Thank You So Much Gentlemen. The real shame, Unwritten yet, is the Entireity of your Iconic Generousity who inspired Hundreds of Thousands and provided pleasure and Passion to so many more!

Not sure why i'm the first to review this show. Fair to good sound quality for an Aud recording. Shakedown delivers the goods with a nice elongated jazzy jam. Bucket sizzles and at least you will enjoy the ride. An uninspiring but well executed Sugaree brings back memories of Lake Placid '83 minus the lyrical miscues at the beginning. Check out the strangely lathargic ending -- the tank suddenly is on E. Brent can run, but he can't hide from too much new Built to Last-era stuff although the intro was pretty cool. Decent Row Jimmy with Brent tickling the ivorys. Pablo wouldn't have bitten off his ear if he heard this foot-stompin' Moon. Not my favorite bobby tune, though. Interesting crowd participation during Tennessee Jed aint no place i'd rather be than the Omni. This recording drops the very beginning of Promised Land which cooks like flank steak on the BBQ on a hot summer night.
Second set kicks in high gear with Estimated. In my opinion, one of the most psychedellic of all dead standards. Nice transition to Eyes. The rest is filler.
