Busted in Greensboro
Pretty good shows but the narcs were all over---got popped in my car rolling joints. Fingerprinted somewhere in the lot and given a summons to appear. Good luck my court appearance was slated for the day after a summer NC dead show....91 was the last of it for me mostly but I did enjoy the Boston run that fall and a rare Casey Jones at RFK in 92.

The Filler!!!!
I was so excited to hear the filler that I didn't listen to the rest of the show, but it looks killer! The last 7 tracks are what you wanna check out!3-23-75 in it's entirety.I think?? If I'm wrong I'm sure I'll get reminded a few times by the "Deader Than Thou" folks on here! :) I'm giving it 5 stars just for the filler,I don't know about the rest of it,yet. PEACE,LOVE,& The Grateful Dead!!!!!!!!!!!

vg show, EYES is OK
VG show in gen, but honestly odd how EYES keeps getting these rave reviews. It starts out wonderfully but then the drummers start dozing off and leave Garcia playing some wonderful stuff but with a wimpy sort of aimless backing. I honestly think he thought 'screw it' and just kept his energy up even though their's was flagging.

Lookin for a Chateau - G'boro Coliseum
That place was awesome and this show was good with teaser for the April Fools D.S. Not many venues in these days where you could see ur friends clearly in the upper tier.
This recording is ok, a little tinny and thin withBoob way out front.

EYES!
Perhaps the best Eyes of all time, sans 3/29/90. This one is longer and more explorative, while 3/29 is well...just exactly perfect. I thought the first set however, was just mediocore for this time period. Get this show for the Eyes and the Playin, which isnt too shabby either. Setlist is not that great; dig the Knockin encore, but there are many better versions out there. Would get five stars, but the first set brings it down to a generous 4.

Jerry wants a Dark Star
Listen to the end of the Playin' jam...Jerry's tryin really hard to pull 'em into Dark Star without giving it all away...Bruce takes a little bite but the rest of the guys seemed hip for drums...guess Phil had to take a leak. Ya know, there are lot's of post-Brent haters out there but '91 sure had a bunch of stellar show IMHO. e

solid, but not spectacular
The show starts off slow and plodding, but picks up with a very jazzy Eyes>PITB. Also contains a top-5 Around and Around, and a very rocking Johnny B. Goode. Definitely a high-energy rocking show. If you're a fan of 90s Dead, check this out.

April Fools
This was a great two-day event in Greensboro. Not so great for my friend who got busted by a long-haired undercover cop wearing a dress. Did anybody else notice that on March 31 the band went into "Playin' in the Band" just before "Drums" and "Space" and April 1 came back from "Space" with the conclusion of "Playin' in the Band"? What a trip! I was looking around asking if anybody else got it. They didn't know what I was talking about.

Southern Comfort
Southern shows were so much different than the northeast which were so much different than the west. (Western folk STILL call us carcass killers b/c of all the red meat and chicken we'd eat down on Shakedown.) Whatever...
Seeing a confederate flag at a Dead Show could only mean we were down below the Mason Dixie Line...

Just starting to really get into 90's shows but if this is any indication it's gonna be happy hunting. Half-Step, Eyes and FOTD are all time greats to these ears.

oh yeah !
This run is in my opinion one of the best of the post Brent era-.Even Dennis McNally later commented in the creative loafing paper of how sensational these shows were, and from someone who was there every night that says something.I am grateful for soundboards now ,but although my aud tapes have long since wore out they are worth seeking out too ,and I hope someone out there uploads them on here. For me the rest of the tour never quite reached the level here.I always thought these would be a great vault release.Too bad they dont let us vote on releases,or we may have had hampton '89 by now ! I give it a 5 on performance, and the sound here is really good too.

Half Step, Greensboro NC Toodle-oo
I believe the woman dancing was Manasha Matheson, Jerry's girlfriend at the time and Mother of his child. Not completely sure, but I think so. But yes, I do remember. I also remember the really strong, clear "family" hit I took right before this show. So high was I that I had forgotten they already sang the first verse/chorus of Eyes, and thinking to myself, "This is the longest intro to Eyes ever!".
I also remember my friend getting arrested while I was in the show, and he had the only set of keys to the car. Begged the tow truck driver to jimmy the lock so I could get my backpack out and be mobile. Spent a sleepless tripping night on somebody's motel floor, listening to the most incredibly loud, abrasive snoring I'd ever heard.
Next day, bailed friend out, and moved on to Atlanta and Orlando. Yee-hah. Yes, I believe this is one of the best shows I ever saw.

during the eyes and the darkstar from the following night my buddy collapsed backwards from the sheer immensity and beauty of it all.
personally, the audience copy of the 3.31 show gives me more chills...the Samson rocked the house down and the Around->Johnny B. well....had most of Carolina rocking.
Enjoy.

Nice, but...
Figured I'd drop in here and mention the physical aspects of the recording and the board mix as I've noticed them so far since most everyone has stuck to music reviews on this one.
There is a little digital noise or clipping at the beginning of FOTD.
Jerry seems to be buried a little bit in the way of guitar especially, while Bobby's guitar, and Vince's keyboards are very much out front. This is mostly during the early portions.
There is a quick skip just as Bob breaks into the lyrics on Queen Jane. Also, a little very minor static of some sort during Samson.
During Space there is a right channel 'tick' toward the middle before it fades for the next disc. It reappears somewhat heavier in Space on the next portion at times along with some static in both channels. This is the worst glitch so far, but if you're not hung-up on listening to all of Drumz>Space, then don't worry about it so much. The latter parts definitely are not as sonically pure as the earlier parts. The band is playing very loud later on such as on Johnny B. Goode, and that is causing some overmodulation.
More clipping in both channels during Knockin On Heaven's Door. Bummer.
That '70s J.B.Goode filler is way punchy. Some fix on the levels would make that less jarring. Bring down the db!
I'm listening through SONY MDR-V6 Professional headphones on a JVC FS-S77 desktop system.
It is probably our blessing that these small, insignificant glitches are present on some of the best shows the boys played. Otherwise, shows like this would probably be relegated to Dick's Picks Land.

Bruce was Jerry's Muse
Whenever you saw the boys with Bruce sitting in, you knew things were going to get wild. I remember looking at Jerry, and he would have this glint in his eyes looking at Bruce. I always thought that the Fatman loved to play with new faces and absorb and use their energy. It was one hell of a run in Greensboro. The Eyes on the first night is one of the best you will find. I've always heard that the Louisville, KY eyes of the early 70's was the best; and it's good but this one will hold up to any of 'em. It was great to be young, stoned and on the road!!!

Eyes is also on DP 17
Surprised nobody has mentioned that this killer combo of Samson->Eyes is included as bonus tracks of disc 3 of Dick's Picks 17 from the Boston Garden fall run of '91. Makes for a nice addition to that release. The Eyes is everything everyone has touted it to be, a wonderful version long and jammed. The rest of the show is great as well. I really enjoyed Bruce's playing; it added a new dimension and brought back that sound that Keith added in the 70's which helped make those years the best ever. Rock on.

23 Minute Eyes!
My version of this on an XLII-S wore out long ago. This is a excellent sounding show in terms of performance and recording quality. This was Hornsby's first show back after missing The Knickerbocker (3/23, 24, and 25/1991) and Nassau (3/27, 28, and 29/1991) shows. I think Jerry was excited to have him back for the remainder of the Spring tour. There are a couple glitches throughout the recording, check the .txt file.

Man, This was one of my favorite shows that I attended! Seems like the boys always rocked my hometown. 5-1-80 rocked as well! The 83 show was groovy... was that the first "Touch"?... I thought it was Bertha at first.
Some dude did a review of the boogie and raved on a song called "Mighty Swell"... I thought it was funny. Anyway... 5 Stars!!

All old material, Queen jane being most recent song.
April fools day-Darkstar.
2 holidays back to back.
Great stop on spring tour.
Greensboro KOA real nice.
Probally my favorite shows attended, except omni'90.
After the show this girl Angie and I went to a hotel to copy show from this car mechanic/taper named Wilson.Hotel was live.He played the tape out loud while we waited for our copies.
Back to the KOA with great Nakamachi 1st gens.
This was no April fools joke.We played those tapes[2]all night and day until the gates opened the next night, still have tapes and they sound perfect.Wilson was a pretty avid taper and a full time tour head/car mechanic.
Those 2 days in Greensboro were a great memory.
10 stars for this show and the next four4/1,4/3,/4/4,4/5.

This was one of THOSE shows. This show is one where words just don't do it justice.
I was but a mere mortal in the presence of something byond descripion. Each song just hit me like a freight train, and I lost myself in the best Eyes I have ever witnessed. Bruce on FOTD was just dreamy.
A must download from this era and really overall.
