Good show and a great recording. This show is very short, particularly if you compare its length to some of the monsters of this tour like DC and Chicago. However, what is here sure packs a punch. If you like to hear Phil with all his arsenal, this is for you. The Other One slams to a stop old school with a Cryptical ending and in the second half of the Scarlet transition jam Phil comes alive and just takes over. Thanks to the taper and Charlie for the transfer...a fine bass player.

Wowee! What a great recording! The crisp mix of AKG's and Schoeps mics is wonderful. Somebody hit the sweet spot at this venue.
This is the weirdest/coolest "Victim" I've ever heard. Reminds me of a looong time ago. Real nice "feel" to the entire show.
Five and a half!

That's where it all began !!!
First show for me and it couldn't have come at a better venue. Living across the border I was stoked to hear the Dead were coming to my "home" venue and I was finally going to see what all the buzz was about. From the moment I got in the lot there was nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.
A wicked Scarlet/Fire at my first show couldn't have been any better. Wonderful memories of this fantastic evening at The Knob !!!

As you may know from checking out the SBD reviews of this show, it's a good one. Most of summer 91 was good ones, but this one is a lot of fun besides. The recording is really decent quality. I like the mix of crowd and band...everyone is audible and pretty well balanced, including the audience. The interplay is very, very evident and only adds to the enjoyment of the recording. Vince is surprisingly tasteful throughout (note Scarlet jam where the audience pushes him hard), Jerry's voice sounds good, and Phil is alternately subtle and overwhelming, but always clever. I'm almost happier that I got this one over the board. Almost.
