I am on an amazing journey
I am listening to every 1994 show in order, mining for gold.
Set 1 Highlights: Lucy Lucy is very smooth. Always a treat to hear that one. Nice Althea with Jerry finger-picking sweet solos throughout. Rough ending through. Intense performance of Eternity. Very good.
Set 2 HIGHlights: The second set is sort of a 90s Dead song showcase (and two Vince songs at that), which is a bit of a letdown after the firecracker set 2 that went off the previous evening. All of these songs are played well with good timing. Jerry in gear. 2nd performance of Samba in the Rain. Pretty OK Truckin', into a rare That Would Be Something. Nice performances of the rest.
ON TO OREGON. Buckle in.

Just....no
I was at this show, the last one I saw of the GD. I was a life-long fan (born in '52) and followed them throughout and whenever they came to wherever I was living. But by this point, well for me, "Elvis has left the building."
Very weak set-list, listless arrangements, dreary undertaking in total. The only way anyone could give this more than a couple of stars is either from inexperience or pity.
The best part of the night is that "Love Supreme" came on the car radio driving home.

Worst set list ever? I say yes
However the performance of the songs is first rate, but still the song choices are so bad. Vince does two different songs, and not a medley. Ugh Brutal. But again they played very well.

My first Samba
I was at this show and it was the first time I heard Samba in the Rain, and my body just started dancing harder than any other song played. I was looking around and realized everyone was just kind of standing around (or so it seemed to me). I just think it's such a great tune to shake your a$$ to and can't understand why a lot of folks don't really like it.
Anyway it was a great show and my first Dead show after 4 years of not seeing them. The first Jerry solo brought tears to my eyes because I missed seeing them so much.

The "Tuning" (track 4) = "Do Re Mi"
It's an old Woodie Guthrie tune:
Lots of folks back East, they say, is leavin' home every day,
Beatin' the hot old dusty way to the California line.
'Cross the desert sands they roll, gettin' out of that old dust bowl,
They think they're goin' to a sugar bowl, but here's what they find --
Now, the police at the port of entry say,
"You're number fourteen thousand for today."
CHORUS:
Oh, if you ain't got the do re mi, folks, you ain't got the do re mi,
Why, you better go back to beautiful Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee.
California is a garden of Eden, a paradise to live in or see;
But believe it or not, you won't find it so hot
If you ain't got the do re mi.
You want to buy you a home or a farm, that can't deal nobody harm,
Or take your vacation by the mountains or sea.
Don't swap your old cow for a car, you better stay right where you are,
Better take this little tip from me.
'Cause I look through the want ads every day
But the headlines on the papers always say:
If you ain't got the do re mi, boys, you ain't got the do re mi,
Why, you better go back to beautiful Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee.
California is a garden of Eden, a paradise to live in or see;
But believe it or not, you won't find it so hot
If you ain't got the do re mi.

great transitions
The transitions in this show are great. Victim > Lazy River Road and Truckin > TWBS. The interesting pairing Victim and Lazy flows together like they were doing for years and Truckin, after a nice jam, eases nicely into TWBS. Take a listen

Sunshine over Seattle!
Came all the way from Hamilton, Ontario, to see the Dead. Worth every mile of the highway! A Beautiful day, a warm night. The set was awesome! "Paint my Masterpiece" was sublime. Does anyone remember waving to a little teddy-bear at the end? Lots of you did and he waved back. Hey, the bear got a T-shirt! Size; extra, extra small! (He still has the shirt!)

6/14/94
Shakedown rips!! One of the best of the year if not the best (yes I did listen to all the others from this year). Actually, IMHO, this is a better played show than the first night (maybe with teh exception of the Scarlet>Fire), although the setlist leaves a little to be desired. Honestly though, I was happy to see 'em play something that I didn't like, if they played it well, rather than something choice that was played like sh*t.
Whats up with the ending to Althea?

Nice day anyway.
Totally spectacular day weather-wise for Seattle. I can't say the same for the Dead. Monday's show (6/13) was quite good. This one has some interesting moments but I remember being very disappointed at the setlist. The playing is pretty solid.
The "Space" totally freaked me out . . . on my audience recording, you can hear audio clips from the news broadcasts when we landed on the Moon in 1969. Then a fantastic "SOTM" a short time later. That was neat.
I don't hear the "moon landing" audio on the sooudboard . . . too bad. It was VERY weird and almost unsettling. Has anyone else heard that?

Get this show for the opening Shakedown Street! IMO the best Shakedown of the year. Also had a passionate Standing on the Moon in set two. Mono SBD mix by John Cutler.
