LibriVox recording of The Ghost Ship, by John C. Hutcheson.
This book intentionally veers in and out of the supernatural, as the title implies. The officers get more and more bewildered as they work out their position, and yet again encounter the same vessel going in an impossible direction.
Having warned you of this, I must say that it is a well-written book about life aboard an ocean-going steamer at about the end of the nineteenth century. (Summary by N.H.)

Subject: A good start and racist at the end.
Subject: A good start and racist at the end.
The story was very good at the start and through the middle but weakened at the end until it reached it's fairy tale ending, also one of the readers in the second half was way over the top in his voice affectations that grated on me a bit.
I understand that this book was written long ago but one character was blatantly racist while saying his servants loved him like some racists today say some of my best friends are black while practicing discrimination.
