Subject: An amazing work
Subject: An amazing work
Frederic Moore's Lepidoptera Indica in 12 volumes with parts done by Charles Swinhoe is perhaps one of the greatest efforts to document the lepidoptera of India. Interestingly most subsequent attempts have built upon this but no work has to date been quite complete. Often the authors died and by the time the work was published, a lot of the nomenclature was changed making it still a daunting task, indeed one that would probably require several lifetimes to complete to a reasonable extent.
Volume 1 with the Papilionid plates is perhaps the best and is yet to be scanned.
