New Riders of the Purple Sage Live at CD's Cafe on 1988-08-04, talk about this sound.
The New Riders of the Purple Sage were an American country rock band formed in the 1960s. Known for their unique blend of psychedelic rock, country, and bluegrass, they were considered part of the country rock music movement of the time.
The "Live at CD's Cafe" show on August 4, 1988 captures a live performance of the band in an intimate setting. CD's Cafe was a popular venue in San Francisco, known for its live performances and for attracting a loyal fan base.
In this specific concert, the New Riders of the Purple Sage likely performed a mix of classic songs from their repertoire, along with some newer tracks if they had released any albums at the time. Their live performances were known to be energetic and full of improvisation, allowing the band to explore different arrangements and instrumental solos.
The sound of the New Riders of the Purple Sage typically features rich vocal harmonies, distinct acoustic and electric guitars, as well as elements of pedal steel guitar and banjo. Their lyrics often evoke themes of the American West, freedom, adventure, and love. The band was led by vocalist and guitarist David Nelson, who was accompanied by other talented musicians such as Buddy Cage on pedal steel guitar and John Dawson on guitar and vocals.
While I don't have direct access to the recording of the specific show on August 4, 1988, it is likely that fans of the New Riders of the Purple Sage enjoyed a memorable night of authentic and captivating music. The band was always known for their ability to create a warm and engaging atmosphere in their live performances, and this show must have been no exception.

Thanks for making this available. This was an interesting period in NRPS history, kind of their unplugged period, if you will. Not my favorite NRPS stuff, but not my least favorite either. Great recordings, and great renderings of the old stuff.
