Subject: Phil Lesh & Deadheads should not support Verizon
Subject: Phil Lesh & Deadheads should not support Verizon
Fans of the Grateful Dead should not take it as just an annoyance that greedy, bad companies like Verizon and others are putting their name on venues and jacking the prices. That money goes into the pockets of CEOs who get paid more than their company pays in taxes, and funds their efforts to divest their workers of benefits. I do not attend shows at this kind of venue. I want to see Phil Lesh & Friends, not Verizon Phil Lesh & Friends; or Exxon-Mobil Phil Lesh & Friends, or Coca-Cola Phil Lesh & Friends. I believe Garcia would turn in his grave. Influential bands who claim (as the Dead do) to support progressive causes should choose their venues more carefully.

Excellent show, excellent recording (I saw no mic stands that night, so nice job)! Here's a shout-out to the rightful name and glorious-but-trampled spirit of this cool venue - the OAK MOUNTAIN AMPHITHEATER. Perhaps they changed it to the ubiquitous and boring 'Verizon', and overloaded it with Brooks&Dunn-type acts, to try escaping the fact that the city banned Widespread Panic from playing there a few years back (the only band to sell out there on 3 consecutive nights, and the venue's historical top money-maker). Now you get $6 Cokes, $7 nachos, and have to secure a home equity loan just to get a couple of crappy pisswater beers. Interesting that I've not seen a sold-out show, or anything remotely close to it, since that time. This ABB/Phil show, by all rights, should have readily sold out - but I guess so many of our locals needed to stay at home that evening, hands a-wringin', in order to witness John McBlink go down in flames again. Too bad, you missed a superb show! Bring back Panic, and bring back Oak Mountain Amphitheater!!

The band put on a great show. Love the lineup and the raw sound. Thanks for the quick post.
PErsonal favorites include Bertha and the Playin' bookends. Was it a coincidence that the band played Rain n' Snow just as the clouds let loose of some rain?
Download show if you want to sit back and groove.
