so, first dead associated band real gig for me, and a real treat hearing those familiar chords played by a honest to God Dead associated group, and, I might add, kicking ass at it.
the balcony at the super kind hoyt sherman was literally bouncing and swinging during shakedown > Music. WRS was a real treat, since the one from dick's 12 is one of my all time favorite dead tracks ever.
it was a great show, with 2 great friends i rarely see now, during a monday night after isu classes were over. i even saw this old deadhead i worked with about 6 years before, from old bluebunny daze: Guy, whereever you are, thanks for rolling down the blacktop rockin' the 90s Dead tape in the fat caddy, getting some good shit my ear. turns out that was the seed that got planted in 95. quite the trip to see that guy, of course, not sure he recognized me, or woulda remembered actually. but, great show, Bob and band had good energy, that place is the best venue in DM to see a live show. also saw Derek Trucks Band play a really amazing show there in Oct. 02 or so.
cheers and steers

This was the first Dead activity in Des Moines in almost 20 years (last show was 12-7-81). A half-page Bobby photo made the cover of one of the sections of the Des Moines Register that day.
What can I say - awesome show. At one point Bobby had on two guitars and then he threw one of them to the stage crew in Let It Grow.
The Hoyt Sherman Place is an old mansion in the Victorian area known as Sherman Hill in Des Moines. The place is a museum that has an old auditorium. It sure was cool seeing Ratdog do what they do best in such a neat venue.
Do yourself a favor and download this show! Excellent quality, excellent playing, and excellent setlist.
