Subject: Awesome night at the Rocks
Subject: Awesome night at the Rocks
Being one of the first few shows i went to and beginning a 3 night run in Colorado and then the 4th of July in Santa Fe i wsa pumped for this one.
Breeze was blowing and thhen the boys hit the stage and the magic began to happen. Everyone's faces lit up and they hit the opening noted to Restless Wind. The crowd was pumped and getting down quick. Very well played version, short but tight. Then came an early version of Close Your Eyes (Open Wide) Around 9 mins. tight and a solid groove through the jam. St. Thomas followed and the crowd was loving it. Sweet Nershi candy throughout. I wish they would bring this out for this last tour. Followed by Another Night. and then WANT!! love this song, funky funky. They also need to bring this one back out imo. Latinissimo followed. Standard, Kang gets going. This is where it gets really good. First extended jam of the show. 22 minute Little Hands > jam > Search. An absolutely beautiful LH. Perfect build up to Nershi's first solo. and he nailed it, except for one minor flub. the crowd was going nuts at this point, something big was about to happen. Nersh going off and Kang playing fiddle licks behing him about to come in, and take off. than Kang comes in. His tone was so beautiful. and the steady rythym behind him. Always love Kang fiddle. Gets intense and faster, builds up and drops out into funk, with Kang hitting these eerie licks. and Kyle playing Madman Across the Water-esque funk. It slows down even more and holds a steady groove, with Kyle hitting that sound that he does every once in awhile. (cant explain it) kinda like a flutey sound but not really. at about the 19 minute mark it gets spacey for a bit while they try to find their way into Search. Nersh starts hitting a repeating lick or phrase and Kang follows with Keith hitting a steady rythym. anyways AWESOME jam and buildup.
Roundabout opener for 2nd set (1st time played) nailed it. the whole second set was great, but im tired and cant write anymore. A for the show, A for the musicianship. get this one. Cheers
