Subject: Thing One about Japan
Subject: Thing One about Japan
All the shows from this run are high water marks in audience recordings for me. Everything is so crystal clear, the crowd is there but not intrusive, and Steve's tone is right out front during each and every work.
Fun versions of KTBB and Wildlife to open the show (the opening of Wildlife is a perfect example of what I mean concerning the capture of Steve's tone). It's Up To You is worth mentioning for several reasons, but the one I most admire is the masterclass the band puts forth on how to use dynamics within a composition.
Specifically, the second "movement" of the work begins with a wonderful crescendo to set up the rest of the solo (whereas the 12/8/02 version crescendos at the end to close out the work). Just fantastic.
You're The One, Samba (long version which doesn't fizzle out), and Funk are all worth a serious listen, but Thing One takes the prize, for me, as the song of the show. No wild solo by Steve, but the band gels during the middle of this piece, and they pretty much stay put for the remainder of the run.
I'll grade this one in relation to the other 3 shows from the run (rather than SKB's total output to date). Great show, but things get better from here!
Playing = B+. Sound = A+

Subject: nice show!
Subject: nice show!
Sweet show, very upbeat and high energy.
It's Up to You is my personal highlight, some sweet sweet K-waves on this tune. Starts off lilting and soaring, ends up RAGING!! 29 min samba is worth mentioning also.
My first time hearing moon people and thing one (just starting to dip into the newer SKB tunes), these 2 songs seem like they are just made to flow into one another.
Sounds great as always with the stage tapes.
Definitely worth the download.
Thanks to Arielle for taping and sharing!
