Subject: Very disappointing
Subject: Very disappointing
I was at this show and I was very disappointed. I thought the band had no life to it. I've seen well over a hundred GD shows and probably close to 50 or 60 post Jerry shows, several which included Warren Haynes. It wasn't Warren, the band was just off. Fortunately the next at the garden was a great show.

Well, where to begin...
My second Dead show in a row, second of the tour, second of MY LIFE!
Yes, im a youngin to dead live and in person, having just started opening that near endless envelope just after that wave that flag tour. After being shut out of the Buffalo show and kicked around by some cops for i reason i musta missed? I got offered a spot on the bus (Good Ole Purple bus Jezebelle) and took the offer with these strange friends. After trading mushrooms that a friend left in my bag by accident in Buffalo (?) for a ticket to the wilkes barre pa show, i successfully got into the show (absolutly wonderful, a treat I didnt think Id get 4 years ago). Long island was where i decided to taste some of the paper goods i found at the previous show, and sucessfully made it in thanks to some folks that set a pic for me around the attendent, to catch the majority of baby blue. Although very dissapointed i couldnt get in early with the purchase or trade of a ticket, well i was in no shape to be complaining.
On to the show, which im just listening to for the first time now. JeeZ was that death dont have no mercy intense! I was still trying to settle in at that point, find a place i felt i belonged (not the high angled seats) and things got heavy in faces all over the building. And I totally agree with a previous post about the death and moving on theme of the night. A strange theme indeed. I also got a lot of that lost at sea, aimless but sometimes it feels so good (by getting on the bus, i was essentially dropping out of my classes, choosing what my good ole mother dont understand a bit...you know the tune).
Where was I, so many intense ones that can bring up those difficult facts of life, but the releasors where fantastic, Dont ease me in, GDTRFB, and alabama getaway, they all felt like such a relief, a very cool sensation for a concert. The whole venue i felt was a big of a cluster though, much more so compared to the previous show in a MUCH smaller venue but with MUCH more room, especially behind tapers to dance and such. the security, although they werent hassling, where acting fishy. I think they where up too something personally, but im not here to talk conspiracies (but, im 77% sure they had a major drug deal or something of that sort going on on the first floor. LOL ive lost it but...)
jeez im rambling, and im sorry if your stuck reading this whole thing... But allin all, it was such a treat, and to all you older folks, thanks so much for paving the way, and to those who hold grudges against the younger folk, well so be it. But to all those kind hearts, I hope to see you again, and to the tapers, you know... and to all the nitrous tanks, go away, too much noise balloons sketchiness..., and too the fella that played the music around shakedown hooked up through a 90s toyota van i believe, jeez thanks fella, you certainly did have your songs straight, and too jerry, thank you so much, I miss you too....
and too the rest of the Dead, goodness gracious, am I ever glad you made a commitment when Jackstraw came around.
Peace and much love and respect,
matthew

Subject: its been a great decade w/ warren
I am a bit confused lately cuz i have been reading tons of posts all over the place talking about how nice of an addition warren is to the band, or others saying how bad he sounds with them and he should'nt be taking Jerry tunes. Where the hell has everyone been? Warren has been singing Jerry and Brent tunes for a decade now with phil and friends and The Dead. I have seen close to a hundred shows with him on lead and he does absolute justice to the music. He even began to change his signiture allman sound to fit the bands sound better this year. He stepped into some giant shoes taking that role and out of everyone i have seen he channels the spirit of the dead better than anyone. This run has been great and this show was nice.More people need to enjoy the music for what it is...not what they want it to be.. stay positive and enjoy the vibes. Thanks tapers for the tunes and family for always keeping the vibes alive. Peace till next tour.

I was there and was not really impressed. Great start but then they got way to slow- i'm not talking mellow in a good way. Sorta upbeat end of first set and then the so so acoustic - the dark star- call me cynical...just too much...
most people in my area were sitting during most of the show. Good ending but overall not worth $100. I could have gone to MSG the next night and instead picked this show...crappy choice I know they have sounded great during this tour but this show was just too slow for me

I had a blast at this show and was dancin at the back of the floor for the majority of it.This is a super nice recording too.
The first set is excellent and sets off with a great opener.Jack Straw, although slower has a great midddle build up jam. The BE Women has Phil slowing down the tempo, after they started it really fast. Why? It was fine. Easy Wind and Death Don't are awesome and the return of Lost Sailor> Saint of Circumsatnce is really, really good.Bob nails it big time.
The accoustic set had to be the high light for me, stunning renditions of all three songs.
Alabama was a surprise, alittle rough to start but they end it strongly. The jam into and the DS is another highlight. The Knockin' On Heaven's Door is very sweet and yet another surprise.
A slight raggae feel on the ending too.
They rage out on GDTRFB and I like the vocal ending on this one.
Touch reaffirms it all.
The vital first part of this great weekend of shows, which may have been the best so far.
See them if you can.

Everyone's raving about MSG but don't miss this gem (I was at both). The first set (even with the Lost Sailor business) is astonishingly good. Brown Eyed, Easy Wind, Death--really amazing. After a long delay in the middle of the second set where they kept the lights off (equipment probs?) they came out with a snappy and lowdown Alabama Getaway, and I really enjoyed being enveloped in the green and purple tentacles of the Dark Star. The Heaven's Door and Goin Down the Road are heartfelt and exciting.
These guys are playing with creativity and enthusiasm.

great recording but could we have a gapless transfer please? five stars except for the gaps.
also the track break that occurs after Touch starts should be relocated. Though if it was gapless it wouldn't matter.
sorry to whine but the sound quality is so good that I think the transfer flaws should be fixed.
thank you David.

this sounds fantastic. lots of blues played here.
definatly a fun show to experience.
warren don't need to be let loose, he's shredding the songs like they were his, it's just hard to hear him at times. i dont think he's holding back at all, just too low in the mix. weir is a bit loud in the mix, but he sure is playin a mean guitar.
it's good to be back on the bus.

Subject: Spiritual/morbid set list?
I'm fascinated by all of their setlists on this tour and think they put a ton of work into planning their song selections. Besides the fact that they're playing their entire repetoire without repeats (mostly), they seem to be choosing some themes as well.
It can't be a coincidence that this show's theme is a bit spiritual/morbid; its all over now baby blue-death dont have no mercy-saint of circumstance-dark star-heavins door-feelin bad-touch of grey (i will survive).
Band is playing musically solid, but their professionalism and preparation for this tour is unreal!

Dead Nation is in wonderful form. As an "older" head going through the taper trading days I am in awe of the technology making the sharing of these shows possible with such quality and beyond timely fashion.
I was at this show, (truly had an enjoyable blast), though it looked like the N.C. police were sadly still doing their thing.
Here it is a couple of days later and I am able to download the Flacs in less than 45mins.
My Grateful Thanks to all who are making this possible.
My only critique at this time is that I think the mix from the soundboard for the shows I've listened to needs a more high end in the blend. I say this after listening to the shows and then listening to GD shows. Jerry's guitar was always RIGHT THERE in the mix.
To end on a high note though, I'm loving the whole thing. The energy and grovin times are here and now.

Warren definatly brings a new aspect to the band...it is so cool to watch them re-invite after all these years. I hit 77 shows in the late 80's -90 and this sound of their's will only get better. There is an article in the Chicago Sun-times about how they r talking about going back 2 the studio after this tour. Rock On BOys...God Bless u TApers!!

These guys sound excellent with Warren Haynes leading the charge. He seems to inspire an urgency to the sound. This is my favorite recording of the tour thus far - though I'm no expert and am just listening to chunks of these 09 shows due to lack of time and some occassional shortages of enthusiasm. Thank you very much for posting this show. Easy Wind kicksass.
