map 2: Erromanga Island, Southern New Hebrides, W. Pacific. Contains geographical descriptions, sub areas and variations in soil and vegetation, a general summary of bird life, zones of bird life, and notes on individual species. Coast and points accurage. Main peaks approximately accurate. Ranges and highlands approximate. Rivers approximately accurate, correct at mouths. Copy outline by Capt. Bayldon. Interior by L. Macmillan. [corrected]

Brief ornithological survey includes geographical description, sub areas and variations in soil and vegetation, general summary of bird life and notes on special special species, zones of bird life, notes on individual species, and brief notes on other types of fauna collected. Macmillan led the Whitney South Sea Expedition from 1935 to 1940. Macmillan's wife, Joy, accompanied him on the expedition, acting as an assistant. Lindsay was trained by A.J. Marshall, a well-known Australian ornithologist. Before joining WSSE, Macmillan was already well-versed in skinning and collection bird specimens. He left WSSE to join the Australian military during World War II
