Volksunterhaltung (Berlin, Germany)

Summary:
"Die Volksunterhaltung" (the people's conversation) was published by Raphael Löwenfeld, the founder of the Schiller Theater in Berlin. Löwenfeld came from a Jewish background and was a prominent figure in the founding of the Centralverein deutscher Staatsbürger jüdischen Glaubens, an organization that supported Jewish assimilation in Germany. The Schiller Theater sought to give the public access to classical German theater. His "Volksunterhaltung" offered a forum for the discussion of theater and making theater accessible to the public.
