John Torrey Papers (PP), Archives, The New York Botanical Garden
Correspondence from William H. Harvey to John Torrey, dated April 1, 1850. Harvey writes from New York City, where he has just arrived after a tour of the United States, on his way home to Ireland. He offers to carry any parcels back with him that Torrey might wish, provided he forward them in time. Harvey describes his visit to Key West, where he collected algae and met John Loomis Blodgett, and tells Torrey he also met Torrey's daughter Margaret in Washington D.C. when he was staying with Joseph Henry and his family. Harvey also mentions that he has left a copy of his book on British algae for Torrey at Columbia College; that copy is held at the Mertz Library, New York Botanical Garden
Digitized under grant #PW-234827-16 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)
