All horse shows and exhibitions held by members of the Association of American Horse Shows, Inc., shall be governed by its rules. The term "horse," as used in these Rules, denotes either a horse or pony. RULE I. Entries. SECTION 1. Members are liable to a fine, or such other penalty as the Directors may determine, for each infraction of Section 3, paragraph 3, and Section 4, para- graph 1. Exhibitors are liable to a fine, or such other penalty as the Directors may determine, for each infrac- tion of Section 3, paragraph 2; Section 4, paragraph 3, and for errors in entries. SEC. 2. All entries must be made in writing and signed by the owner or his authorized agent. SEC. 3. All horses must be entered in the name of their bona fide owners, and must so appear in the horse show catalogue, except as provided for entries matie in the name of an agent. Horses cannot be entered in the name of a party other than the owner, except in the case of leases, certified copies of which must be regis- tered with the Association of American Horse Shows, Inc. Entries may be made in the name of a stable or farm, provided such stable or farm name is registered with the Association of American Horse Shows, Inc. All appli- cations for registration must be signed by the bona fide owner or owners. The fee for each registration shall be ifive dollars (,$5). The use of a registered name by any person, other than the registered owner, is prohibited. No entries shall be accepted in the name of an agent, unless the bona fide owner's name is also given. The name of the owner need not be given in the catalogue. SEC. 4. The entry blank must contain the name, age (if nine years old or over, the term "aged" may be used), sex, color, and, in the case of all horses four years old or over, the height of each horse entered, and these particulars must appear in the catalogue. These particulars need not be given in four-in-hand, hunt team, collection, post entry, championship and other classes in which the conditions state that the entry need not be named. In all breeding classes, each horse must be HORSE SHOW AND SOCIETY CIRCUS registered in the recognized stud book of the breed, and in addition to its name, age, sex, color and height (it four years old or over), its register number and pedi- gree must be given on the entry blank and appear in the catalogue. In all classes for a specified breed, other than breeding classes (_i. e., thoroughbred hunter, hack- ney in harness, etc.), the sire and dam, ; and in half- bred classes, the sire or dam, of each horse must be given, in addition to its name, age, sex, color and height and preferably should be published in the catalogue. Exhibitors are responsible for their own errors and those of their agents, in making out entry blanks. If the name of a horse that has been shown at a recognized show is changed, its former name must be given at the next two (2) recognized shows at which it is shown. SEC. 5. Every entry shall constitute an agreement that the person making it, owner, lessee, manager, agent, nominating driver, rider and the horse shall be subject to the rules and regulations of the member giving the show, and the Constitution and Rules of the Association of American Horse Shows, Inc. The decision of this Association on all questions arising therefrom shall be final. SEC. 6. Failure to Show Entries. Unless suitable excuse is presented to the Committee of each show, for failure to show an entry, a fine shall be imposed upon the Exhibitor not exceeding Ten dollars ($10). SEC. 7, In championship classes, all horses having taken a first or second prize must compete, unless ex- cused by the Committee of the show. Exhibitors failing to comply with this rule shall forfeit all prizes won in other classes. This section does not apply to wins in combination classes. RULE II. Recognized Shoivs. Recognized Shows shall be all shows in membership with this Association and such foreign shows as may be specified. RULE III. Duties of Members SECTION 1. Each member of this Association shall, at or before the annual meeting of each year, tile with the Secretary of this Association the dates for its next show. Such dates and any conflicts arising therefrom shall be arranged by the Board of Directors. SEC. 2. Each member of this Association shall, with- in two weeks of the last day of its show, send to the Secretary of this Association a marked catalogue or list of awards made at its show ; and such marked catalogue or list of awards shall include the name and owner of each prize winner in post-entry and championship classes. A member shall be liable to a fine, if a marked cata- logue or list of awards of its show is not sent to the Secretary within two (2) weeks of the last day of its show. There shall also be sent a report of all entry fees or other indebtedness which remain unpaid, to- gether with a report of any act on the part of any ex- hibitor, his agent or employee which may be deemed prejudicial to the best interest of this Association. This report shall be signed by the Secretary. Sec. 3. Each member of this Association must publish the rules of this Association in its prize list and cata- logue. RULE IV. Conduct of Members and Exhibitors and Penalty for Violations. SECTION 1. Unpaid Entrance Fees and Other In- debtedness. Any exhibitor whose entry fee or other in- debtedness remains unpaid two weeks after any show shall be disqualified from exhibiting at any show given by members of this Association until such indebtedness is discharged in full. The Secretary of this Association shall cause a list of all exhibitors who are disqualified by this rule to be sent to the members of this Associa- tion. SEC. 2. Misconduct of Exhibitor or His Agent. Any exhibitor or his agent or employee who shall be judged guilty of conduct prejudicial to the best interest of this Association, after due hearing by the Board of Directors, may be refused the right or privilege therefor to ex- hibit at any show of any member for such time as may be decided by the Board of Directors by a two- thirds vote of those present. Any member of this Association who shall allow a person so disqualified to exhibit, ride, drive or act as employee of any exhibitor, after due notice has been re- ceived from the Secretary of the Association, shall be liable to suspension or expulsion from this Association by a two-thirds vote of any meeting of the Board of Directors. SEC. 3. Misconduct of Member. Any member of this Association who shall fail to pay its premiums or other indebtedness within a reasonable time or who shall act in a manner prejudicial to the best interest of this Association, may be suspended or expelled by a two-thirds vote of any meeting of the Board of Directors. RULE V. Divisions. For the purpose of classifying various kinds of horses, the following divisions have been made : Breeding (all classes shown in hand) ; Heavy Harness (all classes shown in harness, except those described as light harness or draft) ; Light Harness (roadster, standard bred, trotting and pacing classes shown in harness, and fine or fancy harness classes) ; Saddle (3-and5-gaited saddle, polo pony and combina- tion classes) ; Hunter (all hunter, jumper and suitable to become hunter classes, shown under saddle) ; Military (officers' chargers, troopers' mounts, gun teams, etc., and all classes open only to officers, en- listed men or State troopers) ; Draft (delivery farm and draft teams or singles, shown in harness). RULE VI. Novice. A novice is a horse which has not won a first prize (at any recognized show) in the particular division of the show in which it is shown. Only such horses are eligible for this classification. Novices are such from the date of the closing of en- tries. In the case of Novice pairs, one of the horses of the pair must be a Novice. This rule does not apply to the National Horse Show. Horses which have won in four-in-hands, tandems and hunt teams, or as one of a pair in harness, saddle or jumping classes, shall be considered Novices when shown singly. Horses that have won a combination class shall be considered novices when shown in other classes. RULE VIL Amateur. An amateur is one who rides or drives for the love of the sport, not as a professional or for a livelihood, and who shall not have received any monetary consideration for his or her services, and shall not be professionally interested in the purchase, sale or trading of horses. The children of professionals shall also be debarred from riding or driving as amateurs. Should a professional change his or her profession, or the child of a professional adopt another business than that of their parent, and desire to be classified as an amateur, he or she may apply to the directors of this Association for an Amateur rating, which at their dis- cretion may be granted. The status of an amateur shall be decided by the Di- rectors. In all Corinthian classes, the riders must be mem- bers of a recognized Hunt. RULE VIII. SECTION 1. In the case of any action of any per- son, coming under the jurisdiction of this Association, is found detrimental to the best interests of the As- sociation, findings in the case shall be transmitted to the Hunts Committee of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association and the Masters of Foxhounds Asso- ciation, with the request that they take such action for the protection of mutual interest as may be possible under their respective rules. SEC. 2. In the case of persons who have been disci- plined by the Hunts Committee, or the Masters of Fox- hounds Association, this Association shall take such ac- tions on the findings of the Hunts Committee or the Masters of Foxhounds Association as may be deemed for the best interest of mutual protection. RULE IX. AH questions not covered by these rules shall be de- cided by a quorum of the Board of Directors, whose decision shall be final. RULE X. These rules may be added to, altered or amended, at any meeting of the Board of Directors, by a majority vote of those present. IIOTH CAVALRY (MASS. NATIONAL GUARD) RULES TO BE OBSERVED BY EXHIBITORS 1. In case of horses being entered and not exhibited, the entrance fees will be forfeited. 2. When one horse of a pair does not exceed half an inch under or half an inch over the height prescribed in the class in which they are entered, one of the horses being within the limit, the pair shall not be dis- qualified, but the horse that is not within the prescribed limit, shall not be eligible in any single harness except for which his height qualifies him. 3. The Committee will not be responsible for any accident which raaj occur to any animal or vehicle exhibited at the show. 4. Any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the officials on the part of the owner, groom, rider or driver, will disqualify a horse from adjudi- cation, and the owner will forfeit entrance fees. 5. Each Exhibitor will be forwarded a badge entitling him to ad- mission to the Show Grounds for the days of the Show, and a badge for each attendant actually required by him. These badges are not trans- ferable and will be forfeited if loaned to anyone. 6. All attendants coming in charge of horses will be subject to the order of the Committee, and must have their horses in the enclosure next to the show ring at least a quarter of an hour before the hour appointed for showing them in the ring as arranged in the programme. 7. Exhibit numbers will be provided at the show grounds and must appear on the exhibits before entering the show ring. 8. No person will be allowed in the Show Ring during the time of judging except those having duties to perform. 9. Any exhibitor making an objection to the award of the judges must lodge his objection in writing with the Secretary of the Horse Show within twenty-four hours after the award is made. No objection will be entertained unless accompanied with a deposit of $25.00, which will be forfeited to the Committee if the objection is not sustained. 10. In case of any horse being disqualified, the winner of the next succeeding prize in that class shall take the prize that had been awarded to such disqualified horse. 11. All riders and drivers must be neatly and appropriately dressed. 12. If the entries in any two or more classes of the same division are not sufficient to fill them, the Committee reserves the right to com- bine the same into one competition. 13. The Committee reserves the right to substitute for money prizes, trophies. 14. Should any questions or dispute arise, not provided for in the foregoing rules, the same will be referred to the Committee, whose decision shall be final.
