the local retail trade with flowers that were consigned to him

In 1889 the late respected Mr.E.H.Hunt succeeded by

purchase this branch of the business, and since then your firm

Of these we offer an exceptionally fine line, grown in the south of France, of the true Grandiflora type.

We wish to specially recommend the Mammoth Paper Whites. The bulbs are much larger and in the last few seasons have given better satisfaction than the smaller sizes. There is only a slight difference in the cost, and you will feel well repaid for the additional investment. Acme Hose Couplers used Everywhere.

Last season’s sales were immense and we think that ere the close of the present one, few florists will be without the Acme Hose Couplers. The photograph and index shows ac- curately just what they are.

Remember, no necessity to discard old couplers. No. 3, (see illustration). Place one of these on every hydrant and faucet, also on the ‘‘nib”’’ of each section of hose, Now place a No. 4 coupling in the old style socket coupling, one for each section of hose, then in one second you can connect or discon- nect to hydrant or faucet or to one another any or all sec- tions of hose.

Nos. 1 and 2 are used only on new hose when the old style couplings have been discarded throughout. In this case, however, it is necessary to fitevery faucet and hydrant with a No.3 Acme, the same as though No. 4 was to be used along with the old couplers.

Many have the idea that Acme Couplers are expensive. They are not. Figure for yourself. Suppose you have ten faucets, then you need ten No. 3’s, which will cost you $1.00. You have four sections of hose and need four No. 4’s. They will cost 80c. For $1.80 you fit your entire house with Acme Couplers and save yourself a world of work and worry, Save your clothes, your hands, your temper and time, to say nothing of the bad words,

Acme Couplers are indestructible. We will send them on ap- proval and we fit all our hose with them free of charge if requested.

Cooper Hose Menders.

Aside from the Acme Couplers we consider the Cooper Hose Mender the greatest invention of the age, for the florist, the gardener or anyone who has hose to contend with. A few years ago the florist saw his hose burst, and felt sad at heart realizing that he had to find a piece of gas pipe, a wire, a pair of pliers, a knife and had before him the meanest job on earth with all the attending evils of short wires, awkard pliers, pipe too large or too small. Today he laughs defiantly when the hose bursts, takes his knife, cuts out the bad place, inserts a Cooper, pushes the hose ends together and allis done. It will never pull apart, the diameter has not been re duced, no wires to catch on everything, no pipe to rust and rot the hose, a sound sensible joint good for all time and when the hose is used up, cut out the Coopers and they are good for the new hose when it getsleaky. 10c each; $1.00 per doz.; $7.00 per 100.

On February 12,1900, we mailed the first copies of the best and most complete Cut Flower Price List and Market Report ever issued, and as we stated in our letter of June 16th. ‘“‘They have met with the most universal appreciation ever shown any advertising enterprise in our par- ticular line.”’

If you do not receive these Reports let us hear from you and we will gladly place your name on the list, and mail youa copy each week on and after ‘September 15th, 1900.

We include circulars with each Wweek’s issue, calling attention to seasonable articles either at regular orcut rates. This is an object to every one from a financial standpoint, but the great advantage lies in the fact that it brings the names of various varieties of seed before you at the right time for sowing.

As a result of our efforts to deliver to all Florists at points tributary to this market free of charge a liberal and unbiased weekly Report and Price List, we found orders coming from many new sources. With unparalleled facilities and experience, we handled this wonderful in- crease in trade to the complete satisfaction of all patrons, filling the orders with first-class stock, consigned to us by the best of Growers.

Read These Instructions to Cut Flower Buyers.

It is never necessary to use the words ‘‘send”’ or ‘“‘express” in a telegram, as that is under- stood. The words ‘‘one,” ‘“‘two,” “three,” etc., can be used to represent hundreds, and ‘‘quar- ter’? to mean twenty-five, or quarter of a hun- dred.

When possible, give leaving time AT CHI- CAGO of train on which flowers are wanted, giving the even hour without the fraction—for instanee, if train leaves at 5:10 or 5:45, use simply ‘‘five ”

In using our code, word your telegrams so they can be construed but one way. For in- stance, DO NOT write it this way: Hight hun- dred carnations, etec., as we would not know whether you wanted 800 carnations or only 100 sent on 8 o’clock train.

Our store is not open after 7 P. M. week days, or 12 M. Sundays and Holidays. July and Aug- ust at 5:30 P. M.

Make allowance therefore for delay in trans- mission of telegrams, and whenever there is any doubt whatever as totelegram reaching us before our closing time, use the Code word “Corporal” in case it will do to send the flowers on the morning train.

The Long Distance Telephone Service have re- duced their rates, and when possible we sug- gest telephoning your orders. Wecan tell you just what we have and what it will cost you, whereas, by telegram it requires quite alittle time, and if it is necessary for us to answer you the double telegram at an expense of not less than 52 cents is equal to the cost of phone service from points in a radius of about 150 miles day rate and 240 miles night rate.
