The Rochester Lithographing Company of Rochester, N. Y., have lately issued very nice Plates of the Josselyn Gooseberry and are now ready to supply these Plates to Nurserymen.

The Red Jacket Gooseberry is an English variety of little or no value. We do not offer it.

ooooooOnOn0noO0n THE SAN JOSE SCALE.

We have never had this pest on our grounds or premises. We believe the best thing we can do with this scale is to KEEP IT OUT. We _ have followed strenuous methods to accomplish this. We have observed that an easy way to acquire this scale is to exchange stock with ‘*Tom, Dick and Harry.” We haven’t made an exchange deal for stock in more than fifteen years and don’t propose to begin.

We now grow all our Grape Vines entirely out of doors from cuttings about 74 to 12 inches long. Many years of experience have demonstrated to us that Grape Vines grown from short cuttings or partly grown in green- house are not as valuable for vineyard or garden as from long cuttings all grown in open air.

Campbell’s Early Grape

Planters of this Grape will find herein some very important informa- tion on this subject. . Campbell’s Early vines are now being bought in large lots by careful, wide awake vineyardists who want a grape which will hang on the vines, will not crack and which will keep and can be marketed at advantageous times instead of having to be forced on the market on some special day to avoid cracking and shelling. ‘These vineyardists want a grape which will bring profitable returns instead of possible losses and which will fill the bill for people who are able and willing to pay a better price for something better in quality than the common kinds of grapes. As more than one- third of the people do not and will not swallow grape seeds, here is an- other gap which Campbell’s Early fills. The fruit of Campbell’s Early in our own vineyard has hung on the vines sound and perfect for more than TEN WEEKS after ripening, which fact was observed by numerous vineyard- ists in our neighborhood. Asa good keeper and shipper it is believed to be unequalled by any other grape. Its early ripening is at same time with Moore’s Early and at that time the quality of Campbell’s Early is fully as good as Moore’s Early. After that time the quality, of Campbell’s Early steadily improves for from two to six weeks, so its season is not only very early but is also medium and late. In short you can pick them from early to late as you choose. It is the best keeper in our entire collection. We have never known a bud of Campbell’s Early to be hurt by frost; in our own vineyard they have stood 18 degrees below zero without any injury. Campbell’s Early is inclined to overbear, so when this occurs the blossoms (or fruit when small) should be thinned or the vines and fruit will probably suffer in following year. .

We believe the usual practice of pruning Campbell's Early is to leave too much wood. On old vines we leave only 3 to 4 canes, each 12 to 18 inches long. We use three wires respectively 24 inches, 36 inches and 60 inches from the ground. We train from lower wire, tie to second wire and later in season tie new shoots to top wire.

The real value of a new grape which has been on the market for fen or a dozen years is quite accurately shown by the demand for such variety for vineyard planting. | We will furnish without charge one colored plate for each plate book, on condition that those who receive these plates buy their stock of Camp- bell’s Early of us while using our plates.

Special Notice

We secured for this year and future plantings several large tracts of very best new land existing in our and neighboring towns. ‘This season our vines have made unusually strong growth and we have procured extra box- ing to meet this requirement.

MEDALS, ETC.

At World’s Fair, St. Louis in year 1904 we were awarded the only gold medal given to any individual or firm for out-of-door grown grapes and about ninety per cent of our Exhibition was Campbell’s Early.

We were awarded Gold Medal, Silver Medal and Dicloms from the Pan-American Exhibition in 1901. Wilder Silver Medal in 1897 also Wilder Silver Medal in 1901 from American Pomological Society. Medal of Excellence from American Institute in 1897.

Campbell’s Early has taken First Premiums too numerous to mention and when placed in competition with other varieties, and properly scored, there isn’t another black grape in America which can stay in its company.

We showed Campbell’s Early grape at the World’s Fair at St. Louis in 1904, and Pan-American Exhibition in a (to us) new method. We _ showed it in plates in the usual way and that those interested might have | an opportunity to taste them, we put them in by the hundred baskets. Judging by the number of orders we have received from this way of show- ing and giving away of the fruit we conclude that we don’t care to show fruit in future in any other way.

We do not show grapes at our “Town, County or State Fairs but at | such times our friends, not only of our own but of adjacent Towns, get _ the privilege of helping themselves to specimens from our 6 acre Campbell’s | | Early vineyard knowing that for size of bunch and berry, weight, beauty _ of cluster and deliciousness of fruit no other variety on our grape belt of | | over thirty thousand acres will make as good showing as Campbell’s Early.

CERTIFICATE OF INSPECTION. Every consignment from us will be accompanied by a Certificate from our proper State Authorities stating it is free from all contagious disease or diseases or the San Jose Scale or other dangerously injurious pest or pests.

TERMS AND PARTICULARS

We grow the largest stock of grape vines in America and offer them

One year No. 2 vines 70 per cent. of rate of one year No. 1.

‘Two years No. 1% vines, half-way between prices of two years No. 1 and one-year No. 1. Three-years No. 1, one-half additional to price of two- years. We reserve the right, unless otherwise directed, to fill orders for one-year stock with two-years stock of the same size. Also orders for two- years stock with one year stock of size ordered.

REFERENCES—Dun’s or Bradstreet’s Commercial Registers, Third Nationai Bank, Buffalo, or any Bank in Fredonia or vicinity.

~ Our vines are warranted true to name, and of grades represented,

Should any stock not prove true to name, we will either refund the purchase money of same, or replace with stock true to name free, but will not be liable for further damages, and while we are exercising great care to avoid mixtures, the above is to be a condition on which all stock is delivered.

All packing will be done neatly and with strict regard to the interest of the customer. Should any error occur, claim must be made immediately upon receipt of goods by customer. We agree to pack only according to our own methods of packing which methods vary as seasons change. If those who ship stock to us will pack according to our methods we will be entirely satisfied. After our stock leaves our care and control we will not be responsible for any damage to stock caused by heat or frost or any other cause whatsoever.

All orders are to be without liability to us should injury or mis- fortune befall the stock from hail, frost, fire or any other cause beyond our control. All stock journeys at risk and expense of the purchaser.

Purchasers will please give shipping directions always. Incase no such directions are sent with orders we will use our best judgment in the matter.

Terms Cash:—Bankable notes for 30 to 60 days will be accepted from customers of satisfactory record or bank reference.

Spring accounts are due before June Ist, when we draw at sight for any amounts due. Interest charged on all bills overdue.

All express or freight charges on goods or money must be paid by the customer. If goods are shipped C. O. D., at least one-fourth the amount of the bill must be sent with the order.

We will send to nurserymen or large planters samples of vines at 100 rates with 5 cents postage on three one-year vines, and 10 cents postage on three two year vines, We cannot do justice in samples unless we send three of each kind and grade wanted.

We commence. Spring packing about March Ist. No charge for boxing or packing. After we have booked orders for stock and have held it against all

comers, we shall positively decline to cancel any part of such orders when it is to our disadvantage to do so.
