To My Many Patrons:

In coming before you again this year with my catalogue I do so asking for your patronage, with the understanding that if my goods have not been satisfactory at any time in the past for you to say the word and make your complaint and I’ll be ready ani willing to make any mistakes or misunderstandings good. I can do this for I know if I had not given you good plants and fair. count with pure stock you would have written me before this, asking about your rights, but in case any one feels like they have any complaint to make from any mistake I might have madein the past, 1 stand ready on proper proof to make any one good.

While the past season has been a very hard one on the plant grower, owing to long, dry summer, yet the plants, what there is, are as fine as I have ever grown. I

will have around two-thirds of a crop of plants and I don’t expect to do much ad- vertising for I will not need to do so to dispose of the supply on my hands. Some varieties made very few plants, and of these prices will be considerably higher than in the past, but on such as the standard sorts, I will not sell any higher than in for- mer years.

Thanking my old patrons for past favors, and wishing you all success, I am, Yours for business,

DESCRIPTIONS OF VARIETIES

No doubt you’ receive many catalogues with a great long row of varieties and all will be the best that can be produced; no bad varieties, all hummers. We get this kind ef catalogue ourselves quite often. I have grown Jots of kinds they say ‘tre so fine and found them a flat failure, and all they would do was to produce a lot of plants, but no fruit; and I have discarded over 150 varieties in the past three years that were no good only as a filler in a catalogue. I don’t want to sell you

something I would not plant myself if I were planting in your place. While my list is noc large, yet of this list every one is a tried and tested sort and they are sure to prove good sorts with you for they have been tried out over the country and found good.

IT have the finest lot of plants this year I have ever grown and hope to be favor- ed with your orders.

EXCELSIOR, Per.

This is the earliest berry, year for year, I have ever grown and I have grown most ail the new and old sorts. Excelsior is a fine plant maker and will thrive on old land as well as new, but they do their best on new land, with a _ south Slope. Berry is dark red and they ripen their crop all early. I can furnish them in any amount true to name.

If you want good plants true to name and plants that have the record for pro- ductiyeness, plant my plants.

MICHEL, Per.

Another old variety and one that is planted by many yet. Itis a good plant maker and will do well on most any kind of land and will stand hard, dry summers as weli as any variety you can plant. Berry is a ‘fine one for table use’or to eat out of hand. Rather soft for long distance shipment. In all, a good home berry.

Isn’t This Proof Enough to Show You Our St. Louis Is a Winner? If Not, How Much Do You Want? It is the Most Productive Early Berry Grown

J. A. Bauer, Judsonia, Ark’ Ixennebunkport, Me., Dec. 5th, 1910.

Dear Sir: If you will remember a year ago last Spring I bought two thousand berry plants from you. They arrived in fine order, and I set them and lost perhap's twenty-five plants out of the two thousand. I cared for them up to berry time and nobody in this section ever saw such a patch of strawberries.

I sold my St. Louis berries for 20c. per quart while my competitors were selling four boxes for 25c. The St. Louis berry is all and more than you claimed for it— yes, even to the very last berry holding up in size without any small berries at all. I am well pleased with your fair, honest treatment, and fine plants.

Yours for success, B. W. W.

are very much pleased with them. They were all good plants. Nota single one of

them died. And so Iam giving you my second order. C.D. WwW.

EARLY OZARK, Per.

The largest early berry grown, I guess. They are very productive, good size and a very firm berry. Plants make rather scattering; probably about 15 plants to the mother plant will cover their crop of plants during the season. This berry with me is a great yielder and from what I have seen of them I think they will be found worthy of any one planting.

J. A. Bauer, Judsonia, Ark. Muskogee, Okla., April 10th, 1912. Dear Sir: I received the other shipment of plants yesterday in fine shape. I think they are the best I have ever bought. Thanking you for the favor, I am, Yours truly, W. GO; CL Ht.

MELLIE, Imp.

Another berry that is new, but one that has many good qualities. It is a free plant maker, free from plant rust, and a firm dark red fruit, which sells well on any market. This variety is very productive and will be found much better than many old standard varieties. Season of ripening is second earty. Don’t fail to plant some of this kind; it is a hummer.

growth and is found by many to be more productive than the other kind, and as far as the two varieties go this one is as much like the other as could be, not to be the same. Plants make larger than of the old Klondike, and they are not as good run- ners as the other, but I find they make a plenty of plants for a good fruiting row. Berry is much like other Klondike, but we find it more prolific than it. In all, the coming berry when better known. I want you to plant this variety. I know it is good.

J. A. Bauer, Judsonia, Ark. Beaumont, Tex., Noy. 8th, 1912. Dear Sir: Your plants received in good condition. I will always remember you as a square dealing nurseryman. Wishing you success, I am, Truly yours, J.A. L.

ST. LOUIS, Per.

The best all-around home market berry grown. They will outsell any berry grown today and will produce more berries per acre than any early berry I have ever grown. The plants are large and well rooted; the berry is of light shade and very large. I have grown them where 10 berries picked would fill one quart. The finest flavored berry on the market and in all the best early berry I have on my list for all-around home use and nearby markets. It will not stand long distance ship- ment where not in ice car. Don’t fail to try them.

EVENING STAR, Per.

This is as fine a late berry as I have ever found among all the old sorts. It ripens with the old Gandy, and continues for about a week longer. They are good

plant makers, and they are good, large plants with fine roots. The berry is large to very large; in fact, as large as any berry grow’, and they are firm and will carry to any market. The best late berry in my opinion now on the market.

Prairie Du Rocher, Ill., Oct. 23d, 1912.

All praise of these two varieties, that you make in your catalogue, are facts. I set in Spring of 1911, 2,300 plants consisting of 20 varieties and the St. Louis and Evening Star, were a long way ahead of any other kind. For true shape, size and color, they can’t be beat; fit for a king. J. E. H.

An old variety which is still among one of the very best kinds grown. Plants are large and of good growth and the verries are of large, dark red color. A good cropper.

The business late berry, the berry that is a ed more largely than” any ‘other late berry grown today. The plants are good, large, well rooted plants, not subject to rust, and they are firm with ood growth andthe berries are of large, dark red prices wherever offered. I have a nice lot of these plants to offer and will be glad to make you special prices on large orders.

GANDY, Per.

An old standard variety and one that is still planted largely by the market gardeners for fancy trade. They make a large plant and make them free. Berry is large to very large and of good color. Of late season in ripening. One of the best for faney markets where you want the largest and best fruits.

CARDINAL, Per.

A berry that has made a good record with me. The plants are fine growers; no rust ever has showed up on them. The berry is large to very large. Season of ripen- ing is second early. In all, one of the best berries for markets, both home and long distance.

Sabetha, Kans., June 24th, 1912. J. A. Bauer, Judsonia, Ark.

Dear Sir: Thinking you would like to know how my, plants came out, they are fine; and I let some of them fruit to see what they were, and had very large berries on them. My loss in the 1,800 plants was not one in 100 plants. I got one berry that measured 714 inches in circum- ference. In all, I am well pleased with your plants. Yours truly,

J. S. H.

BLAINE, Per.

Another rather new berry of the Gandy type, but a good one. I have found them more prolific than the Gandy. Same season as the old standard Gandy.

PARKER EARLE, Per.

A good hill-culture berry, makes few plants and is not of any worth planted any way but in hill system.

EVERBEARING BERRIES

I have never had any success with this strain of berries, but they may Jo all right in other sections. I have five of the best varieties, as follows: Cooper, Imp., at 75¢ per dozen; $1.00 for 25 and $1.50 for 50, or $2.50 per 100 plants, postpaid. Pan American, Per., at $1.00 per dozen, $1.50 for 25 and $2.75 per 50, or $4.50 per 100, postpaid. I would not guarantee these varieties to bear you a full crop in the Fall, for they have never done so with me but they do bear fruit in the Fall, but not like the Fall-bearing cranks say they do. You may expect pure plants of these varieties and all will come postpaid at above prices.

Don’t fail to read the many kind words which have come to my desk from pleased patrons, of their own accord. J. A. Bauer, Judsonia. Ark. Honesdale, Pa., June 29th, 1912. Dear Sir: The plants I got of you of the St. Louis variety have proven to be

just as good as you said. My patch is just ten feet square, but I have picked to date 40 quarts of fine fruit. Many have asked me where I got such fine plants.
