A Word of Introduction. The South continues to develop along all lines, agriculturally and horti- culturally leading all other sections of this great country of ours. Realizing this, and feeling that there is a field for a nursery conducted along the proper lines and growing trees cultivated and adapted for planting in this vicinity, the Naomi Nurseries, Incorporated, makes bid for your patronage. Our Nurseries are located at Naomi, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, about twenty miles Southeast of the City of New Orleans, on the line of the New Orleans Southern & Grand Isle R. R., and fronting on the Mississippi River, giving the advantage of water as well as rail transportation. It will be the aim of this Company to supply the very best fruit and ornamental trees, shrubs, palms, roses, etc., for planting in the Southern and Gulf Coast States. Our business principles may be summed up as follows: To give our best personal attention to all orders. To ship goods promptly and insure their reaching our patrons in good condition. To send out no tree or plant we would hesitate to plant ourselves. To invite correspondence on any subject pertaining to our business. To place our services at the disposal of our patrons, and furnish advice and information on anything pertaining to our line. Citrus Fruits. The varieties that we list are the ones that have been found best adapted for planting in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast country, which include a few of the standard varieties of Round Oranges, Grape Fruit, Mandarine, Tangerine, Satsuma and Kumquats. We offer trees grown on Trifoliata and Sour Orange stocks. CITRUS TRIFOLIATA. Is probably the hardiest known species of the Citrus family. It is deciduous in its habits, shedding its leaves and hardening its growth early in the fall, and remaining perfectly dormant until spring. Fruit produced on trees budded on Citrus Trifoliata usually ripens from two to three weeks earlier than on other roots. SOUR ORANGE. Will be found, all things considered, the most satis- factory stock used. It is adapted to most of our different kinds of soil and does remarkably well in heavy moist soil. It develops an especially deep root system and is a vigorous grower. Naomi Nurseries, Inc., Naomi, La. 3 Oranges. SATSUMA. This is unquestionably the hardiest known orange and this, in connection with its early ripening and fine quality, makes it an exceedingly valuable sort. It is medium size, color deep orange, flesh fine-grained, tender, juicy, sweet and delicious. Tree entirely thornless. Ripens in September, October and November. 4 Naomi Nurseries, Inc., Naomi, La. PINEAPPLE. During recent years this fruit has attained a great amount of prominence. It is of excellent var- iety. Fruit medium to large, peel thin but tough, very smooth and bright. MANDARIN. Size medium, deep yellow, flattened, skin thin, flesh dark orange yellow. In Southern Louisiana the Mandarin is planted as one of the most profitable kinds. PARSON BROWN. Size medium, round or slightly oblong, peel smooth, quality good, keeps and ships well. WASHINGTON NAVEL. The fruit is large to very large, somewhat oval, flesh meaty, tender, sweet and highly flavored. While this variety does not hear heavily when budded on sour orange roots, it has proven a very prolific sort on Citrus roots. DU GAT. It is highly esteemed as one of the hardiest varieties and of excellent quality. BOONE. Size medium, quality good, early variety, strong vigorous growth. By some it is considered better than Parson Brown. TANGERINE. Flat, small to med- ium, skin separates freely from the flesh, juicy, aromatic, rich, deep red. Belongs to the Mandarin group. HOMOSASSA. Size medium, some- what flattened, skin very smooth, thin, pulp fine sweet and juicy. Keeps and cajTies well. Vigorous and prolifip^ v _OU ISI AN A SWEET, or Creole Sweet. This is the orange “par excel- lence” for planting in Louisiana. Me- dium to large size, smooth skin, bright, round. Introduced from the Mediter- ranean countries many years ago; this variety has become native and is the orange that has made famous Citrus Fruit growing in Louisiana. The Ornamental Homeyard If you would have an ornamental homeyard you must garnish it with perennial shrubbery, with the velvet of green-sward, with the rare hues and sweetness of flowers; it must wear the air of the well-kept and reflect the owner’s prideful taste. Such a yard borders a home as the setting of wonderful jewels and returns the outlay an hundred fold. It gives joy to the passerby and is the inspiration and admiration of the entire neighborhood. The ornamental homeyard is the acme of well being and well doing. You have read no truer words than these nor none more worthy of following.
