McKIBBIN 1309 Division St. Goshen, Indiana Dorothy McKibbin JOHN H. McKIBBlN, GOSHEN, INDIANA Introduction The majority of Gladioli offered in this catalogue are the Kunderd varieties. The originator of the ruffled gladiolus. These varieties contain the best there is in Gladioli vigor, variety and beauty of forms and colors. DOROTHY McKIBBlN — the new early rnffled pink (originated by A. E. Kunderd) is one of the best forceing and garden varieties on the market today, each spike is a bouquet of itself. I do not attempt to grow all known varieties, but specialize on a limited nnm- ber of choicer kinds and of these 1 grow a bulb product of unsuiqiassed blooming power. MY MOTTO is good measure in quality as well as in quantity. Culture For early flowering, plant the later part of April or as soon as the ground is ready for early garden making and all danger of freezing weather is past. If continuation of the blooming season is desired, ])lant at intervals of about two weeks up until the middle or later part of June. The guound shonld have a good covering of manure late in the fall ju'eceding the planting to fallow. .At the ]»lanting time only well rotted luannre should be used. After jdanting, a high grade ])otato fertilizer or a to]) dressing of hue, well rotted manure can be used with very good results. The ground should be plowed or si)aded from ten to twelve inches deep, well pulverized and packed before ])lanting. Do not work ground when too wet. If after ])lantiug a ernst should form liefore the ]:)lants get through the ground, this shonld be broken liy using a garden rake or wheel hoe, being careful not to break the new shoots. Cultivate often, keeping the soil loose and level and not allowng ernst to form around the plants. AVheii flower spikes begin to show do not cultivate too deep, not more than two inches. To i)rod.iicc full sized bullis for the follovcing year, four or five leaves should be left on the ])lant when cutting the s])ikes. In extreme hot weather spikes should be cut in tke morning, inst as the first flowers open and left to bloom i|n the house. r Bulbs should be dug in the fall before they get too ripe. Cnt the tops off close to, the bulb, dry in the air and sunshine, then store in a cool dry cellar. Keep as near forty degrees as possible. J O H N H. McKIBBlN, GOSHEN.
