APPROVED PEONIES juet’s take a stroll along the trail through the Approved Peonies at Indian Spring Farms Foreword First of all we hasten to say that this is a shortened journey. All you see this trip is a comer of the Approved Peonies of Indian Spring Farms. There’s a complete round-trip ticket for you on the last page of this leaflet — to the big edition of our 1928 Annual Catalog. You'll Get a Lot of Pleasure out of Growing Peonies — Because No plant is easier to grow. None has more splendid flowers. And no other perennial has proved adaptable to so many uses. Peony-time marks the climax of garden splendor when their wealth of bloom affords a wonderful display that in size of flower, beauty of coloring and delicacy of fragrance is rarely equaled. Planted in mass, peonies are desirable for their foliage effect and their color display. Grown as specimen plants on the lawn, they return big dividends of pleasure. As cut flowers, they lend themselves most admirably to interior decoration. Increase the Appearance and Property Value of Your Home by Landscaping with Peonies. The splendid coloring of its flowers, together with the luxuriance and beauty of its foliage, makes the peony outstanding among all perennials for use in landscaping. The peony serves both as plant and shrub. Its ever changing beauty lasts from the time the first shoots show above ground in the spring till the frosts cut down its foliage in the fall. As garden plants, peonies give permanence and character to the plantings, and make an ideal background for other plants that bloom before and after. Combine peonies with your other perennials and you will be overjoyed at the effect. Use them as accent points in the shrubbery plantings. Peonies are a happy choice when used in the foundation plantings about the house. They are unequalled for borders along the driveway, or planted in hedges to mark the boundaries of the lawn or garden. Plant Approved Peonies Approved Peonies are the true “aristocrats” of the peony world. They are the selected varieties from the hundreds of peonies in commerce that we are featuring in our plantings and that we deem worthy of our unqualified approval. Years of experience and study have guided us in the building of our Approved Peony list. Each is a distinct variety of outstanding merit that has stood the test of time. Each is a free and reliable bloomer that will produce beautiful flowers on a plant of satisfactory habits. Further¬ more, it is one of which we have accumulated good healthy stock of a free blooming strain that has been grown to maturity and thoroughly tested out in our own plantings, so that we are able to supply selected roots of our Approved quality. Inexperienced buyers may choose from this Approved Peony list with confidence that each is a worth-while variety worthy of a permanent place in any planting. Maximum effect for minimum effort rewards the peony grower. 1928 APPROVED PEONY LIST This boiled-down list is our selection of the best of the peonies. Each is a proven variety that we know from actual experience to be distinct and worth while. It does not include the new and rare novelties that have not yet earned their place.
