Vase of Unnamed Seedlings

The present day hybrid Gladiolus is so mixed as to ancestry that no two seeds will bring forth flowers alike. It is this characteristic which enables specialists to produce so many varied and distinct forms of this popular flower.

SUNSET SKY

Is a Bailey Seedling you will appreciate. Offered last year for the first time, we have received many letters commending it. It has a large, vigorous spike, wide open florets, with many open at a time. Color is a light cream, suffused with carmine; very deep, pronounced carmine throat; bright carmine lower lip. This flower will blend with almost any bouquet. Prices: Large $1.00, medium 75 cents, small 50 cents.

ALL PREVIOUS PRICES ARE CANCELLED

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 15, 1931

The success of our Glads does not depend on rainfall during the growing season. They are raised in a semi-arid region by irrigation and are given just the needed amount of water at the proper time. Experience of 2 5 years enables us to do this accurately and without guess work. It is this knowledge which enables us to produce the superior Glad bulbs which many of our customers write they receive from us.

TERMS: All orders if for less than $5.00 are net cash with order. Orders over $5.00, 25% must be sent which holds orders until shipping time; balance C. O. D.

SHIPMENT: Orders for $2.00 or more from this list will be sent prepaid to any point reached by parcels post, safe delivery guaranteed. On orders of less than $2.00 add 10 per cent for postage. Orders for $15.00 or more can be sent by express at any time; others as weather permits.

GUARANTEE: Most failures in the growing of Glads are due to causes beyond our control, making it impossible for us to guarantee success. If you are not satisfied when stock is received, return it and get your money back. If after growing, a variety should prove untrue to name, we will cheerfully replace it free.

DISCOUNTS: Other bulbs to the amount stated below may be added free to your order. Do not subtract the discount from your order. $5.00 worth of bulbs add 5%; $10.00 worth of bulbs add 8%; $2 5.00 worth of bulbs add 10%; $50.00 worth of bulbs add 15%.

Get your neighbors to join with you in a group order. The discount is worth the effort. Combined orders, if for $2.00 or more each, will be put up in separate packages if desired. But all are mailed together.

By special permission, as to our reliability, we refer you to the Lewiston National Bank, Lewiston, Idaho.

We grow no mixtures, but sometimes labels become lost and for various other reasons small lots of Glads are combined. Many of these are high-priced bulbs which if sold singly wmuld cost many times the price asked for them in the mixed lots. They are priced at a low figure and are excellent buys for those who wish good Glads but do not care to keep the names separate.

LOT NO. 1- In this lot there are 100 small bulbs, all of blooming size, priced at $1.50. LOT NO. 2 100 medium sized bulbs for $2.00.

LOT NO. 3 100 large sized bulbs for $2.50.

LOT NO. 4 100 small bulbs, various colors, our choice, tken from our regular retail bins, $2.50.

LOT NO. 5 100 medium sized bulbs, at least 10 different kinds, our choice, taken from our regular retail stock, wrapped separately and name written on each package, $3.00.

GLADIOLUS

Raising Glads from seed is becoming quite a hobby, but many do not have the varieties to make good selections. We have seeds from over 100 hand-pollenized high- grade varieties and hundreds of the better sorts which have been naturally crossed. Nearly every one may be depended on to germinate. These seeds are in two lots:

LOT NO. 1 Hand-pollenized from choicest varieties. It is from this lot that we raise our own seedlings. Over 100 seeds are in this package and the price is $1.00.

LOT NO. 2 These seeds are selected from the best plants available but are self- pollenized or by insects. Per package of 100 seeds 5 0 cents.

SEEDLING GLADIOLUS

Different soils, different climates and different handling make quite a difference in Gladiolus blooms. In our selected seedlings you may find the super Glad which in your climate and soil may be superior to anything you have seen. At the low price we offer these seedlings it is worth while to take the chance on a dozen or more bulbs.

GLADIOLUS BULB BARGAINS

Below are listed many kinds of Glads at bargain prices. It is not because the bulbs are not desirable that we wish to dispose of them. Our seedling business is be¬ coming so large that we can not handle so many varieties of the standard Glads. Our loss is your gain. At the prices below these lots are going to move fast. Telegrams, air mail letters and letters by regular mail will be given preference in order received.

Price quoted is for entire variety lot.

SEEDLING GLADIOLUS

NAME YOUR OWN

We want to particularly call your attention to our Seed¬ lings. For seven years we have been growing Seedlings and for the past five years in very large quantities. Unless the Seedlings give no promise, the first season they are pulled out and burned. If they are promising the first season, they are given a second year of trial. Then, unless they show merit they are discarded. Each year thereafter, a careful record is kept of performance, each bulb is kept by itself and har¬ vested as in the case of the regular listings. A description of each lot is recorded and a description of the bulb placed in with the stored lots. We now have many hundreds of these selected Seedlings, and have discarded thousands of the poorer kinds.

The first season we showed any of our Seedlings we secured the American Gladiolus Society silver medal on one of them, and the A. G. S. gold medal for the best collection of Standard and Seedling varieties.

In making these crosses the var¬ ieties have all been hand pollenized and nothing but bulbs of outstanding merit have been used. We have many very high priced bulbs used in these crosses which we do not list in our catalog, and through the courtesy of a grower of novelty Gladiolus we have been furnished pollen of many other outstanding specimens for experi¬ mentation.

It takes at least four years to find out what one has in Glads when they are raised from seeds, and we save you this time in our selected offerings. The first year the seeds are planted a bulb is secured about the size of a grain of wheat. Some times a bloom is secured the first year the small bulbs are planted. The second year a bloom may be depended upon.

But it is the third year as a bulb or the fourth from seed that one may be sure a bulb will reproduce itself with any degree of certainty.

In selling these selected Seedlings, the buyer is given every bulb and every bulblet and is permitted to Seedling Western Sky select a name and introduce the bulb as he sees fit. In every way we re¬ linquish all rights to the Seedling.

In addition to the listings below, we have a dozen or more extra selected Seedlings which will be priced only on correspondence. If you have some particular color scheme in a Seedling which you desire, write us. We will be glad to give detailed descriptions and prices if we have the Seedling you wish. Seedling prices are as follows, and are postage prepaid.
