Hardy Field Seeds For The Northwest COSSACK ALFALFA — The (greatest Of Them All Professor N. E. Hansen’s Wonder Plant This variety of alfalfa is well known to all. It is perhaps the greatest of foia.ge plants, and every farm should have a pasture and hay- land of it. There are a number of alfalfas grown, but Cossack is the marvel of them all in hardiness and forage production. It is absolutely hardy on the most exposed prairie, and does well and produces an abundance of forage and seed in the driest years. It will outyield other varieties of alfalfa and is hardier than any of them. Prof. N. E. Hansen, the plant wizard, introduced this alfalfa from Siberia, in an eight inch rainfall country which often gets 60 degrees below zero in the winter with little or no snow. He has added millions of dollars of value to the farms of the northwest by this one kind of alfalfa — Cossack. Extensive planting of this king of the alfalfas will pay you big dividends in return. As there is a ready market for the seed at a good price and the surplus hay you have can easily be sold at top prices. Plant 8 to 12 pounds to the acre for a solid field of alfalfa or less per acre according to the percentage you want in a mixed pasture. Top Grade Seed— 10 lbs. $2.50; 25 lbs. $6.00; 100 lbs. $22.50; 150 lbs., One Full Sack, $32.00 GRIMM ALFALFA A very popular and good general purpose alfalfa. Hardy and an abundant producer of fine large crops of succulent stems and foliage. A great hay and pasture alfalfa and a heavy seed producer. As a money maker per acre, with hay or seed Grimm is a real big paying investment. Top Grade Seed— 10 lbs. $2.00; 25 lbs. $4.75; 100 lbs. $18.50; 150 lbs. $26.00 DAK. NO. 12 ALFALFA A good hay crop alfalfa. Generally hardy thruout the northwest. Very popular for use in seeding mixed pastures and hay lands. Top Grade Seed— 10 lbs. $1.75; 25 lbs. $4.25; 100 lbs. $16.50; 150 lbs. $23.00 SECOND GRADE ALFALFA SEED Though free from noxious weeds and of high germination, some minor defect keeps us from putting it in with our best grade seed. PRICES for Cossack, Grimm, and Dak. 12: $5 00 per 100 lbs. LESS Than Top Grade Seed. BARGAIN ALL ALFALFA MIXTURE— That Is A Real Alfalfa Buy! PERMIT NO. 5 / / » — HANSEN BUSH CHERRY EASY TO GROW— SURE TO PRODUCE Highly Productive — Good Flavor — Hardy Everywhere Hansen Bush Cherries are the result of over 30 years of untiring; selection work by the great plant wizard. Prof. N. E. Hansen of South Dakota State College at Brookings A new development in fruit culture that is gradually changing the method of plum and cherry fruit production thruout the northwest, because of the immense amount of choice quality fruit they produce on small trees on such a small area of ground. The fruit is of good flavor and quality to eat fresh, but its most remarkable character is best developed thru the superb jam and jelly it makes. It is of good size and comes in massed clusters, at times almost completely covering the limb. The plants bear from the ground up on low bush like dwarf trees, rarely getting over 4 to 5 feet tall. They may be planted 3 to 4 feet apart and still have plenty of loom for natural growth. Bush Cherries usually commence bearing the year aiter planting, often fruit even the year they are set out, and annually thereafter. There is a ready market for the fruit, once having been tried. The bush like trees themselves are of quite stinking ornamental value as they are low and bushy and have beautiful silvery colored foliage which tuins a bright red and gold in fall. They may be planted close enough together to form a fitniting hedge. Hansen Bush Cherries should be extensively planted everywhere in the back-yard garden, in farm orchard lots, and on the lawn in shrubbery groups. 1 — They-sfm easy to grow and perfectly hardy everywhere. 2 Adpfe.gcod to -eat fresh, and make delicious preserves.
