CALENDULA

Calendula are easily grown in a cool house with plenty of air. In fall, leave the ventilators wide open at all times if possible. A midwinter temperature of 45 degrees at night is best. If grown cool in a good soil you will get good hardy plants. The reason flower- ing plants sometimes come single is due to check in growth, such as poor soil, lack of water, or weakened through aphis. Sow seed first week in August for end of December or January crop. One ounce will produce about 2500 plants.

FLORISTS’ ZINNIAS

Bodger’s “Gold Medal” Zinnias for Cut Flowers and Garden

Few flowers have exhibited greater improvement at the hands of hybridizers than the Zinnias, and their im- provement has been matched with a corresponding increase in public favor. For those getting started with Zinnias, it should be emphasized that the nature of the plants demands plenty of warmth. This is explained by the fact they are native of Mexico.

By sowing outdoors in May and as late as August Ist, in well enriched soil and protected with water, they can be had in fine shape right up to frost.
