MRS. BREEDLOVE

“‘A star is born” in this new and different pink Rose. We have grown Mrs. Breedlove long enough since developing it to know and appre- ciate its many superior qualities. Nature en- dowed this strong, sturdy plant with long stems, soft shiny pink buds with a suggestion of orchid at the tip of the petals, and a new-dawn freshness that wins admiration at a glance.

Mrs. Breedlove, registered in 1948 with The American Rose Society, has won acclaim wherever shown. Gardeners love it for its sturdy bushes and the long-lasting blooms, which are always beautiful, but especially so in autumn.

Plant Pat. 646

The graceful, beautifully formed, long- lasting pink buds, ideally adapted for cutting, the extra long stems, the very strong and vigorous plants make this the finest deep pink Rose we know. Show Girl has become the favorite pink for cut flowers because of the heavy-textured, slender buds, opening to the loveliest full- blown flowers you can imagine. Wherever Roses are grown, Show Girl is found to be one of the best plants for the garden. The bush is tall, strong, rather slender, with heavy canes. It withstands the rigors of heat and cold as do few others.

Planting and Care of Roses

Plant in clean ground where there will be sunshine at least half the day—not under trees or near hedges. Give bushes plenty of room. They may be spaced 18 inches apart in rows 314 feet apart. In beds, set them 21% feet apart. Dig holes or trenches 1 foot deep and 1) feet wide, and All so that the union, where the top is budded to the understock, will be at ground level.

Soak bushes for one hour in water as soon as they are un- wrapped. Prune roots to 12 inches and tops to 6 to 8 inches.

Place the roots over a mound of good soil, letting the roots slope slightly downward and _finish filling the hole, packing lightly to avoid air pockets. Soak soil well with water while planting.

Mound soil to 4 inches above union of the plants during winter months and remove it a little at a time early in the spring.

CAUTION: Do not plant too deep or in wet, low ground. Do not wet foliage when watering; let water run on the ground.

Keep your Roses healthy. Use a good dust or spray fungicide to prevent blackspot and mildew. Apply lightly each week and within 24 hours after each rain, except during the hottest summer weather. Use a good insecticide to prevent insect damage.

If your local dealer does not carry fungicides and insecticides, we can supply you. Write us for information and prices.

When cutting Roses, take short stems until the bushes have attained a good growth; and when your plants are large, prune only to the size and shape you desire. Make sloping cuts just above leaf joint or next to the branches. Always keep dead wood cut out.

No chemical fertilizer should be used in the soil when planting Roses. Apply fertilizer after the plants are rooted and growing. Be careful to follow instructions on the package and water well after each application.

GUARANTEE: We guarantee to ship you first-class, well-grown, healthy plants in good growing condition. Most failures are due to lack of watering before planting, lack of sufficient water after planting, improper care, over-fertilization, frost, etc., and we cannot there- fore be held responsible for the results. However, we will replace at half the catalog price any plant or plants we sell that die, if notified by June 1 following planting, but in no case will we be liable for more than the purchase price of the plants.

Mrs. Jesse Breedl6ve has for many years won highest awards for her arrangements in flower shows. She now offers her selection of these varieties for their range of colors, ease of cultivation, long-lasting qualities of blooms, beauty of form, fragrance, and the disease resistance of the plants.

Note the illustrations of these fine, 2-year Roses. The four reds are unsurpassed; no better Roses are grown. The three lovely pinks are first choice of gardeners for cut flowers. Two gorgeous bicolors, Talisman and Condesa, are leaders in their group, while its soft ivory-white tint makes K. A. Viktoria queen of white Roses. :

Money-bearing PECAN TREES

Whether planted in orchards (as shown above), or in groves, rows, or singly, the Pecan today is perhaps the South’s most valuable tree. More and more city home-owners are planting Pecan trees for shade as well as for the nuts.

When one of our customers told us that he got 150 pounds of Pecans per tree, with 16 trees to the acre, we realized this meant a cash income of $720.00, assuming the price of nuts to be 30 cents a pound = Of course, this is good production, but with proper management it is within the reach of any grower. And don’t forget this— if the trees are planted 60 feet apart (16 per acre), the grower can also utilize this land for cash crops during the first few years while the trees are young. We have delivered these money making Pecan trees throughout the South during the past quarter century. Success, Stuar , Schley, Burkett, “San Saba, John Garner, Moore, Moneymaker.
