UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE Bureau of Agricultural Econonics Market News Service ARRIVALS AND UNLOADS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AT KANSAS CITY FOR 19 3 8 ANNUAL REPOIT 212 Railway Exchange Building Kansas City, Missouri, » 1 FOREWORD The carlot unloads in Kansas City for 1938 amounted to 11,766 cars compared with 12,217 in 1937 and 13,969 in 1936. This is a reduction in the total number of cars unloaded in 1938 of 4$ from the 1937 figure and 16$ fron the 1935 figure. The truck receipts (our record of which is probably 90$ accurate) show an increase of 427 carload equivalents in 1938 over 1937, or 3,382 carloads in 1938 conrpared with 2,955 in 1937* By adding together the carlot unloads and the truck receipts in carload equivalent we have the approximate figure of 15,648 cars in 1938 to compare with 13,172 cars in 1937. This indicates a shift to truck transp- ortation and an actual increase of about 4$ in unloads during 1938 over those of 1937. The following States originated more than 500 each of Kansas City's unloaded cars in 1938; (comparisons are given for 1937 and 1936): 1938 1937 1936 California 2,878 2,484 3,14b Colorado 8-12 1,390 1,552 Florida 650 443 469 Louisiana 508 682 599 I daho 1,651 1,489 1,639 Texas 1,438 1,719 1,603 Imports* 1,225 1,312 1,101 *all Bananas except 2 cars of Dates. The following tables have been compiled fron our daily and monthly arrival, unload and diversion records. While these tables are intended primarily for Sractical use by grov/ers and handlers of fruit and vegetable products, every effort as been made to make them strictly accurate for statistical purposes* E.
