75th ANNIVERSARY
This year marked seventy-five years of development and progress, much of which we witnessed in four years. We entered into a recently constructed Thompson Gym and partially completed Founders Residence. Renovation of Fairview and construction of the Social Science Building were previews for our departure, marked by beginnings of the new Biology Wing.

Do you know what it means to learn? When you are really learning you are learning throughout your life and there is no special teacher to learn from. Then everything teaches you-a dead leaf, a bird in flight, a smell, a tear, the rich and the poor, those who are crying, the smile of a woman, the haughtiness of a man . . . Life itself is your teacher, and you are in a state of constant learning.

For the first time in Blue Jay history, two Elizabethtown players signed with professional ball clubs. Skip Roderick will be playing with the Philadelphia Atoms and Chris Menan with the Delaware Wings in the 1974 season. Two other hopefuls taking a shot with the Baltimore Comets are Chip Morgan and Marcus Christopher.
Mohammed Daramy was the only player to receive first team All- American Honors. Seven Blue Jay soccer players were awarded po- sitions on the MAC Northern Section All-Star team. Receiving this honor were Skip Roderick, Mohammed Daramy, and Larry Shirk. Leading scorer for the Jays, Don Napp, received honorable Mention along with team-mates Marcus Christopher, John Smith, and Steve Hassinger.

When once you set out on the journey of self-knowledge, books are not important. It is like entering a strange land where you begin to find out new things and make astonish- ing discoveries; but, you see, that is all destroyed if you give importance to yourself. The moment you say, "I have dis- covered, I know, I am a great man because I have found out this and that," you are lost.

We need a theme? Then let that be our theme: that we, poor grovellers between faith and doubt, the sun and north star lost, and compass out, the heart's weak engine all but stopped, the time timeless in this chaos of our wills-that we must ask a theme, something to think, something to hold to, something to love-

Having come to this place
I set out once again
On the dark and marvelous way
From where I began:
Belief in the love of the world,
Woman, spirit, and man.
Having failed in all things I enter a new age Seeing the old ways as toys, The houses of a stage Painted and long forgot; And I find love and rage.
Rage for the world as it is But for what it may be More love now than last year. And always less self-pity Since I know in a clearer light The strength of the mystery.

TO THE CLASS OF 1974 Dear Grad:
One of the high points in your life will be your graduation from Elizabethtown College. We hope your associa- tion with E-town has been a rewarding one, and that you will have many fond memories of the years spent at your alma mater. As interested alumni we have been concerned with your welfare, as well as the welfare of those who have preceded you and those who will follow; you are a fine group of students of whom we can be justly proud.
You are about to become one of us; the moment you receive your diploma you will become an alumnus there is no way to avoid it. But only you can determine whether you are to be active or inactive.
We welcome you with open arms into a constituency that is deeply interested in E-town College, present and future. With your active interest she will remain a standout among private colleges. We seek your help, your ideas, and the benefit of your experiences; they are vital to the continued improvement in the quality education available within these halls. Elizabethtown College is a fine college; with your participation it will continue to be a leader.
Congratulations upon your graduation, and welcome aboard!
Sincerely,
Bill Helm '50, President
