SYKES LONDON WILLIAM WESLEY AND SON 28, ESSEX STREET, STRAND 1903 PREFACE. In these pages I have recorded the papers relating to recent and fossil Mollusca in the following periodicals : (1) ‘Magazine of Natural History, vols. iix (1829-1836), and new series vols. i-iv (1837-1840), referred to as Mag. Nat. Hist. and Mag. Nat. Hist. n.s. The Supplemental plates were issued in four parts, namely : No. 1, May 1889, pls. i-1v. No. 2, Sept. 1839, pls. v—ix. No. 8, April 1840, pls. x—xiv. No. 4, July 1840, pls. xv—xix. The last plate is lettered xx, but appears to be really xix. (2) ‘Magazine of Zoology and Botany, vols. 1 and 11 (1836- 1838), referred to as Mag. Zool. Bot. The dates of issue of these twelve parts are troublesome. As nearly as I can trace them they are as below: Pt. 1 June 1836 Pt. ey » 2 Aug. 1836 - | previous to Oct. 1837 »” 3 ” 9 r it B28 , 10 Oct. 1837 | 11 ‘Dec. 1837 6| Jan. and Feb. 1837 "12 Feb. 1838. I have to thank Mr Sherborn and Mr Woodward for their kind help. (3) ‘Annals of Natural History, vols. i-v (1888-1840), which became, by union, in vol. vi‘ The Annals and Magazine of Natural History,’ and is cited throughout these pages, for brevity, without any abbreviated title. Series 2, volume vii, for example, is referred to as (2) vil. The date of 1863 has been selected as a convenient stopping- place, since after that year the periodical has been dealt with in the pages of the ‘ Zoological Record,’ whose system has been here followed. I have appended to each paper, in square brackets, the date of its publication. Attention is called to the Errata on p. vi, relating to No. I, of the Digesta, . 23. . 23. Sails . 28.
