Sor A REAL SPECIALTY AT FLOWERFIELD—-WE GROW ACRES OF THEM |

Today the newer Cannas, lower growing and bearing bril- th liant flowers, are being used more and more by smart gar- ie a deners. A pink Canna and pink Geranium border is at once a novelty and a delight for your garden. Long prized as a foliage plant, Cannas are now being grown more for their excellently colored flowers. They bloom for a longer period,

and make a finer display than any other large flowering plant we know. Another great advantage of the Canna is its sturdi- |

ness. They are strong enough to hold their own with shrubs and are often interplanted in shrub borders or groupings with

beautiful effect.

NOT FUSSY ABOUT SOIL

Cannas may be planted in almost any kind of soil but prefer a rather heavy soil where they should be planted three to four inches deep. They may be allowed to stay in the ground in the autumn as long as they continue to grow and should be left until the tops are touched by the frost. They then may be dug and stored for the winter.

Our Canna list is complete. From it you may choose the height, color of bloom and color of foliage which you desire. |

City of Portland Each 25c, Doz. $2.50 One of the new pink Cannas with green foliage. Of medium height, City of Portland with its deep rich silvery pink flowers is an excel- lent plant for garden use. |

AVE MARIA Doz. $1.25 The lovely soft blue florets have a deep red-purple throat and a most graceful form. The color and substance are such that this is one of the best of the light blue varie- ties of Gladiolus. It is an ideal cut flower and equally good in the garden.

BAGDAD Doz. $1.00 One of the most outstanding Gladiolus in the ‘’smoky” class. The perfectly huge flowers flare wide open, almost crowding each other on the stiff tall stem. The color is difficult to describe, but is well shown by the picture be- low. A strong sturdy grower, Bagdad has one of the strongest stalks of all Gladiolus. It is ideal as a cut flower, or in the garden, where it grows sturdily without staking.

BEACON Doz. $1.25 A new variety that is a scion of the healthy Picardy strain. Beacon has many of the same growing traits as Picardy, which is perhaps as good a recommendation as can be made of any Gladiolus, the spikes being very tall and carrying many large florets open at a time. Beacon is a most sturdy Gladiolus with a striking color scheme, as illustrated.

KING LEAR Doz. $1.25 A very tall variety, King Lear carries beautiful Fuchsia- colored ruffled florets. The gracefully curved stem and lovely flowers of King Lear make it a most decorative variety for the garden.

MAID OF ORLEANS Doz. $1.25 This is a fine all-around white, particularly adapted to cut flower purposes. A soft cream shade in the center tends to

turn pure white on the outer edges of the petals. The florets are well shaped and particularly well arranged on the long flower head. This variety is long lasting when cut, making it ideal for arrangements.

MINUET : Doz, $1.15 The standard orchid-pink Gladiolus so well known as a cut flower at your local florist. As many as 8 florets are open at once, almost crowding each other on the long stiff, straight spikes. An ideal cut flower, lasting a long time after cutting.

VARIETY IN ITS COLOR RANGE

MISS BLOOMINGTON Doz. $1.15 A fine canary-yellow with many florets open, arranged ideally along a good spike. A most decorative type of Gladiolus, particularly attractive when used to set off darker spots in the border or to contrast with the deeper-toned Gladiolus. A fine variety for cutting, one to lend bright- ness and cheer to your arrangement.

PELEGRINA Doz. $1.00 The only pure dark violet-blue variety that has stood the test of time and growing conditions. An early variety, Pelegrina blooms very uni- formly, all the spikes coming into bloom within a day of one another. The florets are medium sized and the deep blue is sometimes marked with a purplish blotch on the lower florets, making it appear almost black in color.

PICARDY Doz. $1.25 Unless and until some of the newer Gladiolus are as popular and as worthy, Picardy is and will be the Gladiolus. Almost too well known to describe, Picardy is a lovely pink flower shown below and is to be seen wherever Gladiolus are exhibited, be it at the Flower Show or at the Flower Shop. Grown from our huge and healthy bulbs we know that you can have the finest Gladiolus in your garden when you grow Picardy. A superb variety whose spike is always straight, erect, and carries many florets open at a time.

REWI FALLU Doz. $1.25 Huge and red, this Gladiolus is another of the New Zealand varieties so well known for their tremendous size and extraordinary vigor. Named for its Maori hybridizer, Rewi Fallu is one of the finest dark reds known, an ideal variety for garden or cut flower use. Even the very topmost bud opens into a flower of very large size. There is nothing finer in the darker red class.

ROCKET Doz. $1.15 A most vivid scarlet of fine proportions. The large florets are perfectly placed on its excellent spike. It is probably the best scarlet of all, cer- tainly the best in its price class. Not the least of its many advantages is that from 7 to 8 florets open at once, giving a wonderful splash of color in the garden.

VAGABOND PRINCE Doz. $1.25 One of the most striking Gladiolus for cut flower arrangements that has yet been hybridized. Vagabond Prince is a deep mahogany-colored flower, livened by a garnet shield in the throat, and across the lower petals. The substance is similar to that of Picardy, having the stiffness of that most worth-while variety. The spikes. are strong, sturdy, and straight, carrying many florets open at a time. Vagabond Prince is an ideal color for indoor cut flowers for it blends into surroundings where no other color will serve,
