MAULE’S SPECIAL | WHOLESALE PRICE LIST FOR MARKET GARDENERS 19 O02 From Wm Henry Maule Seedsman, Philadelphia, Pa., U.S.A. I Hit the Nail Right on the Hea for 1902, by presenting you in this most condensed form my Wholesale Price Tah 3 in which I offer you the finest lot of seeds ever gotten together by a single American seed house, in a year when owing to short crops, almost every other seed concern is shouting high prices. Two years ago I started to make preparations for my Silver Anniversary in the seed business. With this end in view last season I planted a larger acreage than ever of almost everything, and |] go into the season of 1902, notwithstanding short crops, with the most complete line of garden seeds it has ever been my pleasure to offer my customers, Take the single item of Gradus or Prosperity Peas, I have more of these peas to sell than all the other seed houses in America put together, and the same thing may be said of many other sorts. Above all, notwithstanding the fact that better seeds than Maule’s cannot be obtained any price, I am able by reason of large stocks of many things, to quote you herewith most reason- able figures. As I have stated frequently before, I believe in a live and let live policy. Many market gardeners had a hard season in 1901 on account of the unusual weather, too much rain in some places, too little in others, consequently, you all want to make a twenty dollar bill go as far as possible. Never in the history of my business has my early winter trade been so satisfactory; my orders at this writing are running double those of last year, so that although my stocks of many things are extraordinarily large, it looks as if some of them would not last the season out, hence I would respectfully solicit your orders at as early a date as possible. Wishing you the compliments of the season, and a Happy and Prosperous New Year, I remain, Yours always to command, Tiel oe I wish to call particular attention to the fact that this price list is intended for truckers only, and by truckers I mean those who are regularly in the market garden business, raising vegetables for a living. In no case and under no circumstances will orders be filled from it for private gar- deners, whom I would respectfully refer to my Silver Anniversary Catalogue. Notice. Many individual items are quoted so low in this Price List that I will not fill orders for them exclusively, as these prices are made for the benefit of my regular customers who send me their general order. For instance, I shall decline to fill all orders received for Alaska Peas at $5.50 per bushel, when nothing else is ordered; the same thing applies to Prosperity, American Wonder, Nott’s Excelsior and other peas, Wardwell’s Kidney Wax Beans, ete., ete. I do not propose to sell my entire supply of one variety to five or six large canning establishments, ete.; but propose to divide same in small lots among my many thousand market gardener customers. 2 SPECIAL WHOLESALE PRICE LIST FROM WM. D. by express on orders exceeding $10, if 25 | per cent. of the money is remitted with the order. I cannot ship C. O. D. by freight. I receive postage stamps same as cash. Early Orders are Particularly Solicted At this writing I have already sold more Alaska Peas for next season’s planting than I sold the entire season of 1901. The same thing applies to many other varieties in this Price List, so that notwithstanding my large stocks, in many eases double those of last season, I am very sure I shall be sold out of many things earlier than usual, and as it is im- possible for me to replace them with seeds of equal quality from other seedsmen, the only thing left for me to do will be to return your money when I am sold out of the seeds I now have in store. Fivery trucker receiving this list should have a copy of my Silver Anniversary Catalogue. It is undoubtedly the seed book of the year, containing as it does, full description of everything named in this Price List, eight colored plates, | more than 650 illustrations, 72 varieties illustrated in colors. It certainly created a place for itself, whether in the garden, on the table, or onthe market stall, and was the admiration of all who sawit. The shape and general appearance of Rosette is plainly shown in the illustration herewith, and I do not thinka better name could have been selected. This name was suggested by three of my customers, Mrs. Edw. Hull neinitos, Cala., N. P. Gregg, Wastsound, Wash., Mrs. E. J. Pelton, Riner, Va., among whom the $100 prize was equally divided, Rosette is of good size, a plant covering an area of 8 to 10 inches in diameter. The head is full and compact; pale green in color, almost yellow on top. The outer leaves are very muchroundedin outline, with a few broad, coarse crimpings, and not nearly so pale in color as tne leaves which form the head. The seed is white. It is regular in shape, and the head forms quickly. Itisslow toruntoseed. It is not the largest lettuce on the market in spread of leaves; but in actual crop it outyields many larger sorts. Itis nearly all head, and but little waste, and it is to be strongly recommended for both home and market use. Hast fall I was in receipt of hundreds of letters praising Rosette in highest terms. I quote from a few as follows: R. M. Jefferies, Thebes, Ill.: It comes nearer com- bining all the qualities required by a market gar- dener than any sort.—H. Wolrath, St. Johnsville, N. Y.: I cannot speak too highly of its merits. The flavor is delicious, and itsurpasses any thing inthe way of a lettuce my friends or myself have ever eaten.—K. Lamphere, Bethany, Neb.: The best I ever saw; stood the hot, dry weather of Nebraska this year better than any vegetable I had.—David Winter, Remington, Ind.: We had very hot, dry weather, but it kept right on growing, was always crisp and of fine nutty flavor; without exception the finest lettuce I ever tasted. S. G. Kilgore, Lon- don, O.: Far ahead of any I ever tasted; crisp, juicy and tender, with a peculiar buttery flavor.
