BOTANICAL copyright reserved GARDEN 10 MISSOURI Cosson, E. 8647-26 /849, monck 4 Paris, France. G Paris, February 26, 1886 My dear Sir, Through your letter of October 21, I learned with great pleasure, that the misfortunes of the war had not affected you personally and that you continue being occupied in your monographic research. Approximately 3 weeks ago, I received at the home of Mr. Bossange, addressed by the Smithsonian Institute as intermediary, 3 parcels of plants, a small part of a booklet and some books. I am sending these to you. I believe that you may already have received this parcel however if you have not at the time when you get this letter, I ask you to reclaim it from Mr. Bossange. His was addressed to the Smithsonian Institute only a few days after the parcels were delivered to him. I have sent you everything that I had available at this time; all the plants from France and from Algeria, plus the collection of plants from the Canary Islands obtained by my poor friend Monsieur de la Perrandiere. His family asked me to make these available to you and at this time I could not refuse more than 300 Algerian species. You will not be forgotten in the revision that I am going to make in my herbarium when I publish the Prodromus Florae Algeriensis. You can be certain that in the course of the year I will offer you a beautiful series of Algerian plants. If you should have something to send me, you probably could use the same route as I used from my dispatch to you. I hope you will be good enough to give me several of the publications that you have made in periodical documents. Could I without being indiscreet, ask you to complete the series that 1 have already received from you: Systematic arrangement of the species of the genus Cuseuta, St. Louis 1859. Two new dioecious grasses, St. Louis 1859. Several articles published in the transactions of the 9 10 MISSOURI . BOTANICAL copyright reserved GARDEN Cosson, E. Academie of Science 1862 page: 119-218. 1 would be very fortunate to be able to enrich my library, with the collection of your important works, which I would highly appreciate and for which I give you merit. I am specially interested in your research of the conifer groups, and you will see that I am in the process of sending you at least fragments of the species that I pocessed in the herbarium, not having had the pleasure of being able to offer you a sample. IfI did not think I would be abusing your kindness, I would be very much obliged if you could let me know each time they are for sale. Of the principal collections furnished by travelers, I would be very inclined in making their acquisition. I was very happy with the plants from the Rocky Mountains, collected by Mr. Hall and Mr. Harbor. The samples are sometimes incomplete, but they are very well prepared. The series of species are very interesting in a botanical geography point of view. I must now give you some sad news. Our excellent friend Monsieur Gay died the 18 of January of this year of an iliness which however grave did not seem to decrease the affection that many that knew him had for him. Please, Monsieur, accept my renewed thanks and my most distinguished sentiments. 1 am at your service. E. Cosson Paris 19. rue degrand Chantier (Marais) 10 MISSOURI .
