Dear Sir,

Please accept my sincerest thanks for your work which you kindly sent me
regarding the genus Pinus, as well as the enclosures. I took the liberty to
Send you my work about the cone sclaes in Abies and please excuse me that I
did not write a dedication. I am very happy to know that you also agree with
Braun's theory concerning the bracts. Eichler published a reply to my 'Critic'
which you certainly will already have in your hands, but this does not contain
anything new and cannot shake my judgment. I am really amazed about Eichler's
shortsightedness in this case.

I hope I have your permission to cite sometimes your information concerning
the question of Sequoia and Braun's part in it.

May I make the request, dear Sir, that you publish your observations and
providing drawings about the abnormal cones in Sequoia? I believe this would

lead to a clarification among the botanists.
