The effused habit of this plant, the reddish tinge, and minute size of the pores differentiate it entirely from P. ferruginosa. In the specimen from Dominica the pores have a brighter tinge of red throughout their length, but are brown at the opening. The outward facies of this plant is that of Radulum. The spores seem to have dropped off and become embedded in the tissue by the subsequent growth of the thallus; they lie in distinct layers, but they are also scattered through the tissue and the hymenium is thickly powdered with them.
