From Robert Burn: "The molluscan symposium in Sydney in May was most successful and enjoyed greatly by all participants. It was good to meet Jim McLean from over your way. Opisthobranch people were there in force: Michael Miller and Richard Willan from New Zealand, Philippe Bouchet from army service in New Caledonia, Patricia Morse on her way home from Fiji and feeling poorly, Bill Rudman and Ian Loch from the Australian Museum, Ross Hinde and Bob Rose from Sydney University, Judith Hunter and Neville Coleman from Sydney, Robin Stobbs from South Africa, Fred Wells from Western Australia Museum, and myself. Six opisthobranch papers were presented at the Symposium, and several of us managed to find time for an informal evening of slides. On the mid-symposium break, Richard Willan and I collected for opisthobranchs on the sandy southern shore of Botany Bay, a few miles south of Sydney. We managed to find eleven species, including a number of Gastropteron bicornutum Baba & Tokioka which proved to be most active swimmers.” -- R. BURN EDITOR'S NOTES: Thanks to the following people for information in this issue of the ON: Dr. Eveline Marcus, Dr. I.S. Roginskaya, Dr. Hans Bertsch, J.A. Ortea, Dr. David Behrens, Robert Burn, and James Lance. My correspondence is still behind and I must apologize for the delays I have made answering several requests for literature and subscriptions. I have spent so much time in the past four or five months working with computers and learning my new job at Zytron that I have had time for little else. In the long run it should be very worthwhile as I will eventually have a text editing system which will be able to do some fantastic indexing for the Opisthobranchs. This issue completes Volume XI of the OPISTHOBRANCH NEWSLETTER. The next volume will start as soon as I find time. Thanks to Hanne Just*of Denmark for many citations: from Dr. Lemche's bibliograpy. Thanks to Jim Lance, Eveline Marcus, Dr. K. Baba, Hans Bertsch, and everyone else who: has contributed to this newsletter. PERSONAL NOTES: From Eveline Marcus: “The European part of my trip was Westheide one afternoon, Luise Schmekel for several days and. discussion about ASCOglossans. She has a student working with such. Then the Nematologist Gerlach, some weeks with my brother, .a..week with a CAT friend in Utrecht, a week with Turbellariologist Ian Ball at Amsterdam Museun, and a lovely week with Claude Poizat in Marseille; no collecting, but I saw his wet collection of 30,000 (!) specimens, all singly according to collecting place (I have put all of one species Gogether), in tiny vials with-label, in plastic boxes of about 20 vials each, stacked in a big chest of drawers. So it should. be, but I wont have the patience to bring mine to near that order. Now I have to answer all letters found at home and all reprints to be thanked for. It will take a month at least... And an Ascoglossan problem is now solvable because I got a specimen, but ONE for a good description and kept intact as TYPE is a new problem." Dr. James Nybakken and Gary McDonald:. are finishing up a book on the -*Nudibranchs of the California coast. American Malacologists is to publish. Both are stilt working out of Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. Johnny Coopers has completed! his (thesis “there on) ethe ecology of Nudibranchs associated with Tubularia in Elkhorn Slough.
