S. COOPER. fae Nurseryman. Propagator and Dealer in General Nursery Stock, HEADQUARTERS, TOPEKA, KANSAS. at. HEN considering the construction of this work as a guide for our cus- (WY tomers, and the public at large, we first thought to bring together the Hl general varieties, with a few valuable additions, and arrange in a similar JIE manner to our old catalogue, would. be sufficient. But desiring still ¢ further to enlighten the minds of those who have many questions to ask, we have attempted to answer—in a satisfactory manner—all such questions as naturally arise in relation to the varieties we herein offer and recommend. For authority—together with our own experience and observations—we have taken in the main, Charles Downing, F, R. Elliott, J. A. Warder, and P. Barry. Omissions that are found to occur in the various columns are such as we have been unable thus far to gather any certain knowledge of. (Copyright applied for.] W. S. COOPER. LS) DESCRIPTIVE CATALOGUE The plan of our work will be readily understood by reading the following explanations. By looking at the head of each column, the reader will find titles corresponding with the following; then taking a variety like Early Harvest or Benoni, and tracing it out on the same line, may be found a complete description of that variety: 1. Origin of Varieties.—County or State abbreviated. 2. Szze.—S for small; m, medium; ], large; v 1, very large. 3. Flesh, Color of —W for white; y, yellow; g, green. 4. Color of Outside.—Y for yellow; g, green; s, striped; r, red; w, white. 5. Quality.—G for good; v g, very good; b, best. 6. Habit of Growth—M for moderate; v, vigorous; v v, very vigorous. 7. Hardiness.—Hi for hardy; v h, very hardy. 8.' Bearing Age—V e for very early; e, early; m e, medium early; 1, late. 9. Productiveness.—M for moderate; p, productive; v p, very productive. In columns representing color of outside, the preceding letter throughout this Catalogue represents the predominating color. As light and soil has much to do with the outside coloring, and through these agencies many variations are made, we will only attempt to indicate the general color. When a dash is placed in precedence for a letter, thus, —y, it denotes light, as light yellow; and thus, y—, denotes dark, as dark yellow; or thus, —r, light red; and thus, r—, dark red, etc. In other columns the same mark denotes a little below or above, as the case may be. ©, [ome s aes rae! 2 2} 2 | coat oid eal eam =) = : | 5 ; : 2 D Sa APPLES. : eASE Se 1 Supe sl ae ters s | a> eee ame Aga reon ies eee |e Olea Grade, | aegis = (32 [cs leas 5 | 5 Yr No!
