In his study of affi- nities, he has been led to register and nominally to admit as species many forms which will perhaps appear to readers, as they do to the editor, quite undistinguishable. The former, however, will easily adopt their own conclusions from the materials placed before them. Species. 12. expansus, f. 24, 25, Sowerby.—Testa lata, pallide fulva, subturbinata, spira breviter turrita, anfractibus angu- latis, varicibus latis expansis fimbriatis, retrorsim arcuatis ; ad angulum anfractuum in spinam laminatam productis, ad canalem exfoliatis—The varices are curved backwards, broadly fringed and produced into a hook at the angle of the whorls. 13. GRANDIS, f. 26, 27, A. Adams.—Testa magna solida, inter varices purpureo-castanea ; anfractibus obtuse angulatis, infra contractis ; varicibus fulvis crassis, ad marginem cris- patis, ad canalem expansis ; area canalifera latissime expansa ; tubis inter varices centralibus, magnis, brevibus; apertura parva.—This large species, which was described before the publication of the monograph but unfortunately omitted, has all the characters of the genus fully developed; it is very solid and has a very broad area over the canal. 14. rrpriatus, f. 28, A. Adams.—Testa ovata magna, tenuiuscula oblonga cancellata, inter varices fulva, infra medium castaneo unifasciata; tubis magnis versus varicem sequentem locatis; varicibus expansis radiatim fimbriatis, disco canalifero expanso.—This species has beautifully fringed, broadly expanded varices. he tube between them is placea close to the following vari. 15. pupiicatus, f. 29, 30.—Testa ovato-acuminata, inter varices castanea; varicibus retrorsim arcuatis, cum tubis interstitialibus confluentibus, et duplicatis; spira acuminata, elevata; canali latiusculo, reeurvo.—As in 7’. avcwatus, the tube runs back into the varix, and is conjointly produced with it, but in this case the joint tube is conspicuously doubled, and compressed on the middle of the lower whorl.
