It is a very re- marcable fact how common certain species of marine- shells appear at certain localities for a lenght of time and thereafter disappear for many years; perhaps some species, which are living in the deepest parts of the sea, come, at certain seasons, to the shores to breed; Rvd. Ziock has at least once found 6 or 8 full-grown life specimens of Turbinella ananas Chem. on one to two feet water, close to the shore; Reeve says that the Tur- binella ananas Chem. lives in deep water and we have never found it close to the shore, thaugh we in 17 years have made excursions around the W.
