OUR SPECIAL SERVICE

ORCHARD ADVISER: -If you are con- templating planting a large orchard and need expert advice about varieties, how to plant, or information on any point that you are in doubt about, ask us to send our man to your place. We can likely ar- range to have him go. We want you to have the benefit of our practical experi- ence which has brcught success to our own orchard enterprises. It might help you to avoid unnecessary (possibly fatal) mistakes. Consultation is the thing, and it is yours for the asking. When needed, we can usually supply a competent man to oversee the planting of large orchards, and for this service only a nominal charge is made in addition to the man’s actual expense.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT: Many people have homes which need shade trees, ever- greens, hedges, flowers and vines, but do not know what to choose or how to plant. We have this material of the very finest quality and where the planting needed is large enough to justify it and the distance from Berlin is not too great, we will be glad to send an expert landscape planter to lay out your grounds for you and give you his advice as to “what” and “how” to plant. Write, if interested.

DON’T PLANT WORTHLESS VARIETIES

For many years the lists, especially of peach and apple in the Nursery catalogs, have been burdened with worthless varie- ties. This year, we have eliminated a great many of them and you will find our list to be composed of pretty good ones throughout. Don’t burden yourself with a lot of miscellaneous kinds just for vue sake of having them in your orchard. Select a few of the best kinds and plant them exclusively. The list of select vari- eties as shown on page 3 will possibly be of some help to you. If you will write us, we will be glad to go isto the matter fully and to help you select the profitable vari- eties that will succeed in your section.

The richest, most profitable land in this country lies on the Eastern Shore of Mary- land, Delaware and Virginia. The soil is deep, loose, fertile. The climate is ideal, seldom any zero weather, drouths never damage us as much as elsewhere. You can grow fruit to perfection, and raise all kinds of vegetables and grain, stock and poul- try. You ean sell everything you grow right at your railroad station for highest market prices. If you want to ship, the country’s highest priced markets are only a few hours away by rail. Some of these money-making farms are for sale for little money. Write for particulars, and tell us what kind of a farm you are looking for.

CALIFORNIA PRIVET

California Privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium). Decid- edly the most popular hedge plant, forming beautiful, symmetrical, live fences of great density. We have grown Privet for a good many years, have grown millions of plants, and the longer we grow it the better we like it. Untrimmed it grows from 8 to 12 feet high; it has attractive, glossy dark green foli- age, which is not subject to insect attacks. It will stand pruning to any extent and becomes compact and solid.
