AIKEN . Pioneering with Wildflowers is a beautifully bound book containing over one hundred WILDFLOWERS photographic illustrations of wildflowers and ferns. In great detail but in story book manner, it tells of the whims and fancies of over 800 species of native plants, types of soil required and even how to propagate them. Different chapters are devoted to groups of plants for particular locations. Thus if you wish a bog-garden, a woodland pathway, a little desert or a beautiful meadow planting, Pioneering with Wildflowers tells you exactly how to go about it. It has been very gratifying to Mr. Aiken to receive the hundreds of letters from his readers telling him of their successes in establishing wildflower gardens, where even the most difficult plants are feeling perfectly at home. Ie ." The first edition of Pioneering with Wildflowers was sold almost before we knew it, and P51 PEI IS: > now, With practically no advertising, the second edition is well on its way. A splendid reference "le 2 y book, an addition to any library, a grand gift for a garden-loving friend, a girl or boy seout or LOVIN ’ campfire girls’ troop. This second edition of Pioneering with Wildflowers is larger and more profusely illustrated than the first. The price is $2.50 postpaid. POT GROWN STRAWBERRY PLANTS Green Mountain Strawberry (U. S. Plant Patent No. 112) Offered for the first time this spring, the success of this sensational patented everbearing strawberry was instantaneous, and sales have been made in practically all the New England states, but more especially to those New England growers who are familiar with this variety and, watching our stock of plants increasing year after year, have waited the time when they might be available, In Windham County, Vermont, where it is best known, many acres have been planted and will be producing this fall. The successful sale of Green Mountain is due to: 1. Delicious quality. Decidedly better in quality than most other straw- berries. 2. Beautiful appearance, A long, pointed variety of bright red color, ripening evenly. 5. Freedom from disease. Only traces of disease have been found in our fields of Green Mountain, even two-year-old fields being practically free from leaf spot. 4. Good plant-maker. A decidedly better plant-maker than Mastodon or Green Mountain Strawberry other everbearing species. On our own farms it has made practically Note size of berries. (Photo taken in middle October.) as many plants as summer bearing varieties. ». Remarkable yield. In the fall, 1934, our two-year-old field was estimated to have set fruit at the rate of 5,000 quarts per acre, but, unfortunately, about half the berries were caught by a severe frost in October. The summer crop of the Green Mountain with us is about double that of the Howard 17, and this year it has continued ripening berries ten days after the last fruit of the Howard was picked. Set our pot grown plants now. You may let them produce two to four clusters of fruit per plant next June, and they will still bear a good crop next fall for you. Price, strong pot grown plants, 12 for $1.50, 25 for $2.50, 100 for $8.00. FAIRFAX Very strong plant with fruit of highest quality. Ideal for home use. Season, midseason to late. 12 for 75c, 25 for $1.25, 100 for $4.00, $35.00 per 1000. HOWARD 17 Howard 17 is still being planted more than any other variety. Very heavy yielding commercial berry. For light and medium soil. Season, early to late.
