Dear Ms. Pat Bryce,

I would like to submit a book proposal to Weiser Books for my translation of
Abraham Abulafia's meditations on the Divine Name.

I am a Technical Writer working in the US and Israeli high tech industries. I am very
passionate about translating Abraham Abulafia's works into English. I have studied
directly with Prof. Moshe Idel and Prof. Elliot Wolfson, the world's foremost
Kabbalah scholars and authorities on Abulafia's teachings.

Abulafia's Kabbalah is experiencing a popular revival in recent years. My translation is
unique in providing Abulafia's meditation techniques in an easy to use tabular format.
The book is intended to be used as a practical meditation handbook in an
authoritative translation. An expanded Weiser edition would include translations of
Abulafia's theoretical essays on the fundamentals of the prophetic experience.

Thanking you for your consideration and help,

Yours Sincerely,

Avi Solomon

Weiser Book Proposal

Abraham Abulafia: Meditations on the Divine Name

translated by Avi Solomon

Book Overview

Amidst the rich panoply of Jewish Kabbalah, Abraham Abulafia resonates the most
with modern, philosophically minded seekers of direct mystical experience. Abulafia
creatively combined Maimonides' Guide of the Perplexed and the ancient Sefer Yesira
into an integrated method of concentrating on the Divine Name.

Abulafia was unique amongst Jewish mystics in providing precise instructions for
personal spiritual practice. I have translated meditations from three of Abulafia's
major mystical handbooks "that reveal the true knowledge of the Divine Name" as he
puts it. These particular texts achieved a wide circulation amongst Jewish mystic elites
throughout the ages.

Abulafia's Kabbalah is experiencing a popular revival in recent years. My translation is
unique in providing Abulafia's meditation techniques in an easy to use tabular format.
The book is intended to be used as a practical meditation handbook in a reliable
translation. An expanded Weiser edition would include translations of Abulafia's
theoretical essays on the fundamentals of the prophetic experience.

traditions, Meditation and Magic.

2010:

Similar Titles

I have identified three similar titles:

-Kaplan, Aryeh. Meditation and Kabbalah. Samuel Weiser, 1989

-Cooper, David A. Ecstatic Kabbalah. Sounds True, 2005

-Goldman, Jonathan. The Divine Name. Hay House, 2010

All of the above titles, while excellent in their own way, do not focus exclusively on
Abraham Abulafia or provide complete excerpts from Abulafia's writings on
prophecy.

Marketing Plan

I would market the book to Jewish Meditation and Western Esoteric groups,
Kabbalah Scholars and the Abulafia group on Facebook.
