To Our Many Friends and Patrons
In presenting to you our annual catalogue we wish to thank all our old and new
customers for their liberal patronage in the past. and who have also made many n<-w
patrons for us by recommending our plants to them.
Owing to the dry summer, plants were later than usual about making, so our
shipping season will be late. We will begin about November the first.
It is a great waste to ship plants until they are well rooted, as you have to
throw away a great many, or, if you put them in they would be worthless to the
party that received them the roots being tender they are liable to die The lnte
rains have caused the plants to make good, and we will have some fine plants to offer
this season
Our shipping season will be from the first of November up to the fifteenth of
April.
Our Guarantee— We exercise the greatest care to keep our plants true to name
and hold ourselves in readiness to replace (on proof ) all stock that may prove other-
wise, but in no case are we liable for more than the same amount of plants bought
of us.
We ship plants in crates, placing damp moss to the roots. The crate we use
has b.en accepted by the railroad company as the neatest and safest package to
ship plants in. and has recommended thar other nurserymen use the same kind of
package. A Certificate of Inspection from the state entomologist will be attached
to each and every package of plants.
We carry special permit from Texas and Oklahoma.
Again thanking you for past favors and wishing to be favoied wdth your future
orders, we are.
Yours very truly,
LOUIS HUBACH.
CHAMPION KLONDIKE.
In introducing this variety, we feel that it is one of the best
we have ever introduced, as it is something we have all been looking
for: a variety that had as good quality 'as Klondike, and that would
produce a large crop. It has a clean dark green foliage, no leaf
spot. Our inspector said it was perfection in plant growth. A fine
plant maker. The berry is a bright red. has all the good qualities of
the Klondike, in shape it is round every one alike, making no but-
tons, firm as Klondike, needs no grading as all of the berries are
perfect. In season — while some of the berries ripen ahead of the
Klondike it would be termed a Klondike season. They are very
large and easy to pick as you will note in the above cut, they lay in
piles right where you can see them, don’t hide the fruit as some oth-
er varieties do. As to production— we don’t believe it can be beat.
In 1913 we gathered an average of 360 twenty-four quart cases per
acre on average land with good cultivation. We have tested it on
heavy soil, also on sandy loam: it has done well on all soil we have
tested it on.
We have a nice lot of these plants, and expect to plant out a
large amount another year. We have such confidence in them that
if we were planting for fruit we would discard the Klondike alto-
gether and put out Champion. We honestly believe that it will take
the place of Klondike as the Excelsior did the early varieties,
We want every one of our customers to test them out this sea-
son and as an inducement we are going to offer to give 50 plants to
each and every one of our customers who orders 10,000 plants of
other varieties at one time. Be sure and state in your order if you
want the 50 plants, otherwise we will not include them.
^ Our price, per 100, $1.50 postpaid.
BENANCIE- This is another one of my seedlings. It is an
early Aroma, berry as large as Aroma, good quality, and will succeed
on sandy land as well as heavy land, would advise giving it a trial.
Price per 100, $1.50 postpaid.

DESCRIPTION OE VARIETIES
Excelsior— A well known early varie-
ty. Good plant maker, fruit darK red,
good flavor, fine shipper.
Early Harvest— This berry resembles
the Lady Thompson, but its fruit is of
a beitei quality. Good plant maker, a
second early.
Dumas — ThL variety, like the H. & H.
does better on well drained land If
you have an old gravel hillside it will
be an ideal place for them.
Klondike — We sell more of this variety
than any other. The fruit is of a dark
red color and lirm Good plant maker
and a fine shipper; a variety mostly
for the South.
Mammoth Clip or Improved Klon-
dike—This variety showed but very
little improvement over the old Klon-
dike last season The plant growth
was larger, but we could see but very
little difference in the fruit, it any.
Hathaway— Second early Very pro-
ductive on good soil, and you win be
surprised at the quantity of fine berries
you will get.
St. Louis - A large early berr> ; makes
a large crop of fruit. Good flavor, a
good variety for home market.
Clymax— Second early. This variety
produces a large crop of good firm bei -
l ies but is a poor plant maker.
Mellie - This is another heavy cropper
in most places where it has been tested
Mid season, good flavor, and good plant
maker.
Annie— In this variety we have a mid-
season berrv that sells for a fanev
price on any market A good plant
maker; fine flavor.
Gandy -A well known late variety that
has been grown extensively. The ber-
ries are large and of good quality, the
greatest drawback being shy bearing.
Fremont- William — Here we have an
other extreme late variety The fruit
is extra large; firm shipping quality:
good plant growth Resembles the
Gandy very much.
Eureka This is one of our latest orig
inations. We have been letting it sell
mostly on its own merits. In the
spring of 1910 the growers visited our
field and saw it fruiting along with
several other varieties, and were so
well pleased with it that they bought
over one hundred thousand plants, or
all we had for sale at the time for
spring pi nting, 1911. We have plants
o.i test at several points, but have not
had reports on them yet. We can only
give description as io what they have
done here. The foliage is a dark green
in season a little later than the Excel-
sior; the fruit is a dark red to center,
firm as Klondike, fine flavor; golden
seed, shows up fancy when in crate.
We are going to put the price down in
reach of all. Be sure and include a
thousand of them in your list. We feel
tnat this amount will give them a lair
test, and that you will never regret it
Early Ozark - Here we have a varie-
ty that makes a nice lot of large early
berrie-. The fruit resembles the Ex
celsior but is larger It is a poor plant
maker only on fresh land.
Wide-Awake —This is one of our new
varieties we have had on trial for sev
eral years. We have decided to put it
on the market this season. It is a sec-
ond early berry, firm, large to very
large, good flavor, large dark green
foliage. We have quite a lot of these
plants and *re going to put the price
down in‘reaeh of all See price list.
/^Improved Alvin— We found that the
Alvin variety was rather soft for long
shipping, so we have bred it up to
where we have in the Improved as firm
a variety as Klondike. It makes a
large crop of fine berries, good size,
fine flavor, smooth, makes no buttons,
good plant maker, foliage large, stems
long, making them easy to pick. Be
sure and include a few hundred in your
order.
