Certificate of Nursery Inspection
To Whom It May Concern:
THIS IS TO CERTIFY, That on the 30th
day of August, 1915, we examined the Nursery
Stock of A. L. Vincent and U. G. Hawk growing
in their nurseries at Salisbury, County of Wi-
comico, State of Maryland, in accordance with
the laws of Maryland, 1898, Chapter 289, Sec-
tion 58, and that said nurseries and premises
are apparently free, so far as can be determin-
ed by inspection, from the San Jose Scale,
Peach Yellows, Pear Blight and other danger-
ously injurious insect pests and plant diseases.
This certificate is invalid after August 1,
1916, and does not include nursery stock not
grown within this State, unless such Stock is
previously covered by certificate and accepted
by the State Entomologist and State Patholo-
gist.
Thomas B. Symons, State Entomologist.
J. B. S. Norton, State Pathologist.

STRAWBERRIES.
Are the most profitable of all small fruits
wgrpwn in the U. S. The returns from growing
strawberries are the foundation of all crops
that follow and puts the first dollars in your
pockets.
Build your own monument of success by
laying the foundation with returns from grow-
ing strawberries. Our plants will make your
success sure, because we make an honest and
conscientious effort to grow plants as good as
any grower. Our soil is ideal clay loam which
insures bright, strong roots and crowns.
We set, hoe and cultivate our own plants.
We don’t trust the care of them to the fellow
who tends them for so much an acre.
We fresh dig all plants to fill all orders.
In doing so you get them in a fresh state.
Often times the weather conditions cause
a delay. Such delays are of short duration in
these parts. The weather is the only cause
for delay in filling your order promptly by us.
Our plants to set are first grown in a Bud-
ding bed. Selecting plants for that purpose
show the best bearing qualities, vigor
and stamina. Also insuring them True to
name.
We publish no cuts or hot air. Often times
you will see plants advertised in a steam roller,
highly glossed catalog, telling you that there
are no other plant growers but the Party send-
ing you fancy literature filled with, cuts of
Berries magnified many times and a long list
of testimonials, that they are the best in the
Biz.
We claim there is one more plant grower —
THAT’S US. A trial of our plants will con-
vince you and we don’t charge you as much
for your plants.
We appreciate the letters written to us by
our customers, but decline to publish them.
In case you desire any reference, kindly write
us and we will refer you to a nearby satisfied
customer who is probably your neighbor.
Plants grown here •'are better than those
grown in the South or Far North. On this
natural strawberry climate the atmospheric
conditions are such that don’t exist in other
parts, which enable us to grow our plants in
the open without mulching them to protect
them from cold. Naturally plants grown
under such conditions are hardy and more pro-
ductive of large and firmer berries. Northern
grown seed yields better crops. It is so with
Berry Plants.
We caution you to use care when you re-
ceive your plants. Often times plants are
carelessly treated in unpacking. It is the duty
of the party opening package to select a cool
place. Lay the top layers of moss on the
ground, dip roots in water, placing plants on
moss, crowns up. Repeat with every layer of
plants. It will keep them fresh. When ready
to set plants cut off ends of roots, dip in water,
then set.
The careful grower has the best success.
We sometimes make mistakes. When we
do, we are ready and willing to make good our
mistakes.
We thank you for your orders and for Rec-
ommending our plants to your friends. Wish-
ing you much success, we are
Very truly yours,
A. L. VINCENT
